Hi All,
I have just booked my V6 Petrol in for a service at Southern’s in Perth.

As she has done 98,000km’s they said that she will require a major service which will cost $800.

I asked what the difference is between a major and a minor service apart from the $400.

He said that a Major service would include:
• Changing the pollen filter
• Changing the engine oil and filter
• Checking everything.
Brake pads and everything else would be additional!

I am no expert however this doesn’t sound right to me! Is there anything else they should be doing for the additional $400?

I would change mechanics now.
Every service should include oil and oil filter change.
A major one would think includes all fluids and everything greased etc.

There would be a guide as to what gets checked at what time and km's in your service book.

Have a look I say or call another service agent for more details.

Best of luck

Shop around. The D3 has been out long enough for private LR workshops to be servicing them. There's 2 here in Brisbane who are 50% of the price of the LR dealership.

Pollen filter is about $80 and the oil filter is about $30 (TDV6). LR charges a heap for the oil too ~$80.

Busman, you must have had the 120K service as that is the mark when transfer box oil is changed. That oil is really expensive from LR ~$170.

Jamo your spot on !!
Decided to get the major work done by LR Dealership to start with after initial purchase August last year.
I will have to go to outsource mechanic svcs for next few services,
who still specialise in Landrovers.
There is a good one one the coast, but only have one D3 they are looking after so far.
LR Dealership said that Auto is due for service Cost $800.00 ???:o
Also left front ball joint also requires replacing, as they mentioned
they tend to go around 100kms.

Dave, the auto box fluid isn't due until 240k or 10 years.

Unless you need the double flush due to the shudders. Mines doing it you've just reminded me to order the oil.

Gidday Jamo !

When l had the 120k major LR mentioned that the Auto trans oil was off and required replacement.;)
One thing you mentioned was the shudder and yes it does it sometimes.
It is also very slow on cold start up to go into reverse out of the garage.
Thus thought it may be a good idea to give it a birthday.
Also today l ordered tyres and happy with the choice of Cooper ATR.
I will give them a go and also see how they perform on the GC Clubs next trip.
Appreciate the great advice and no doubt will go liasing with you in the future.
