View Full Version : RC Series 1 build

Lewy110
24th March 2009, 08:25 PM
Seeing as I sold my Landy last year I thought I would make myself a little Series 1.

Based on a Tamiya CR-01 Rock Crawler. I will post the build as I go along.

Just cardboard at the moment but will be alloy like the real thing.

I see that in the best of the original 80" tradition you're going to use a readily available surplus supply of alloy & recycle it to produce Pepsibright panels. If you cut it just right you might even have the correct curve for the front guards. :p

I got this from somewhere on the web.

Thought it might be of help for your dimensions - you can scale it to suit?

I built one and looked fairly well preportioned.

Look forward to the build :D

Thanks for sending me the plans. I think I will be raiding the scrap bin at work next week for my panels.

Very nice!!

I'm seriously considering trading in my E-Savage on a HPI Crawler king (when the car comes on the market). Bonus is it comes in a fender or wrangler body, win, win!

A little more progress

Mounted the winch but have to work out how I can run it of my remote. Will also try and get some video up on the winch working.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/04/376.jpg

And doing the mock ups on the rear roll bar. Just getting some ideas for now before the finished product.

Hopefully get around to painting the body sometime today.

yeah I do but when i hook it all up and flick the switch for the 3rd channel nothing happens.

It works if I hook a servo up to the 3rd channel, so I will have to suss it out.

I paid $429 for the car and then added another $350 or so for radio gear and batteries etc.

Plus about another $100 in upgrade parts

I got mine from here and they where and I think still are the cheapest

At least the battle scars make the rig look tuff.
Maybe you have to work on a full external roll cage to protect the front screen?

Thanks for the link. I found that guys S1 on you-tube and used as inspiration for mine:D

A lot of guys use the new bright bodies of the Disco and Rangie Sport and mount to other chassis's.

Love those cardboard S1's!

I was going to get a hpi crawler king when they hit the shelves with the 90 body, but I just saw some pics of a proper rawler chassis being developed by HPI, so I might wait for that!

If you have a look at the Brisbane R/C site www.thecrawlpit.com (http://www.thecrawlpit.com), there is a R/C with a Landrover 90 body.

Sorry if this is a repeat.
