Well took the center muffler out yesterday and replaced it with just a SS pipe. There is a deeper sound and under load must give the Tojo drivers a bit of a scare.:D Still well within the tolerable zone. Sounds like a “would” be muscle car of old, if only.

Setting aside the acoustics and allowing for the placebo effect defiantly enhanced by the sound. I’d say the motor seems to run a lot freer and brings on the power a little quicker. This is all with 30k driving.

I’ve kept a log of every fuel purchase since I’ve had her and currently I’m getting 10.5L/100 in Sydney traffic. So I’ll give it a few tanks full and see if there’s any difference one way or another.

I have a customer with a 3" system on a Td5 defender and at big revs it sounds like a Group A Audi Quattro:twisted:

It's been a long while since I had done this to mine, but I really noticed the easier spool up in the turbo when the car was climbing hills in off road situations, definitely allowed the motor to wind up smoother under climbing loads.
Can't see the difference either in drive or noise anymore, you tend to get used to the changes....lol...;)

iv just gone strate thro with my center,, an the only diffrence i can tell is when its under load at 1000-1200rpm,, just befor the trubo wine, an it sounds lik a mack truck,, but im sorta dissapointed cos i was told it would be very loud with that muffler gone, but yes it dose go alot better now, turbo comes in alot faster,

MMMMMMMMM wonder what differance (stig0000) it would make to the noise if you took the very end one off?

My TD5 has 3'' straight from turbo all the way.
Sounds awesome.
No drone at highways speeds.
Can be loud with heavy right foot (careful in town).
But with quick changes you can minimse the 'noise'.
Turbo spools up much faster.
Fuel eco - not sure yet???
More powerf or sure.

Has anyone done this in a Td5 auto Disco (sorry for trodding in the fender section with a disco question)? If so does it sound any good or is it a bit pathetic?
Matt.

it would be the same but in a D2 you would get less noise in the cab as the D2 has crap loads of insulation..

cheers phil
