View Full Version : Disco 2 - TD5 Ignition Switch Problems!

With my Disco 2 manual, I have recently noticed that sometimes when I go to start the engine the starter doesn't engage at all, the dash warning lights all dim but that is all, exactly the same as an automatic would be if it was in Drive etc.
If I try 2 or 3 times it starts OK then seems OK for a while, maybe a few days even, the problem seems to be totally random.
I think I have also noticed, or is the mind playing tricks, that the remote locking/unlocking seems to have lost some range, is it possible that these issues could be connected, or is it a worn out switch?

If the switch is worn, I assume that it detaches from behind the ignition lock, is it a major drama?

Hi Shaker.
My manual D2 started to do similar things a while back - able to remove key but ignition and engine still on, central locking becoming less effective. Found out that the barrell in the D2 wears out behind the key slot (not sure what that is actually called) had it replaced and not a single issue since. hope this helps. cheers JP

I think you may mean electrical component of the switch itself, behind the key lock.
