It would be great if we could get a series 1 gathering in each of the states ie VIC, NSW,QLD, the last series 1 gathering I went on was back in the early 90s at Bulls Camp NSW so iam keen to do it again but up here in SE QLD.

Now lets try and remember there are other states as well?
it is bad enough having the Government in ACT forgetting the rest of Aussie
We in S.A. are running a Series convoy next month with 19 vechiles plus support.
I have been to Vic and NSW to events
I have not been asked to go to Qld, but would look at it
So fellows remember the rest of us, hey
cheers

SE queensland sounds good :p finally something close to me haha.
What sort of a meet up are we looking at? Camping, 4WDing, cruising, BBQ & show'n'shine (haha sorta...)? or a bit of everything?
4WD park e.g. Rover park? - close enough for SE QLD as well as some NSW owners. Or LCMP if more QLD orientated? or if someone has a nice property on the downs somewhere they would like to open up for the Series 1 owners? Somewhere where ownersof unredgistered Series1s could go for a drive too?
Just throwing some ideas around...

Hi there Numpty Missus
I am fairly sure it was advertised previously - but here is the link again.
Land Rover Register of South Australia (http://www.lrregsa.org.au/blinman/blinman09.html)
For those whom have been to the Land Rover Registery of South Australia "Land Rover Jamboree" previously its a great family show (trials - trips and best of breeds).
We have organised a series convoy this year, and current numbers are shapping up to be a great show. Also after the weekend some of the Club Members are doing a trip up to Lake Eyre as the water is flowing (and its a site to be seen)
Well the web site explains it all
All the best

The LROCV has held a Series 1 event called "The Gathering" for many years, similarly the LROC in Sydney has held a series 1 event called "Paxina" at strangely enough a place called Paxina while the South Australian mob have held Blinman over the Easter weekend at once again Blinman.
I think that series 1 events are great but get a name unique to your State or Territory. That way we don't get confused which one we are talking about.

BTW you just missed Paxina.

I think many of the posters in this thread are fairly new to Series Landy's (well I know I am anyway) so just trying to find out the scene.
I knew of Blinman, but Easter is not a good time for me - the other events you mentioned don't seem to be that widely publisiced - well inefectively anyway.
I think I have heard of Paxina and only now learnt of the Gathering (although being a LROCV member for 8 years:angel:) - I better read the mag again.
I would like to get Olute on the road soon and an event can be just the thing to get one off the couch!
So........back to the original question we have
Blinman SA = Easter
Paxina NSW = March (?)
The Gathering VIC = ?? (Venue also ???)
WA/TAS/QLD/NT = ?
I better go over to green and yellow website and make a post.
Not trying to have a go at anyone but it would be good if the other events were publicised as well as Wayne and his crew do with Blinman.

There was also a 6 week run from Perth to Alice next year, and a few of us thought a wagon wheel to meet up in Alice would be a good idea.

An issue not always discussed here is that a number of the local "events" are run by the local or state Land Rover club. I regularly attend Paxina and The Gathering, however in light of the public liability insurance conditions many clubs (the LROC Sydney Branch included) have a policy that people can only attend 1 trip as a guest before they are required to join the club. In my personal case I am a member of both the LROC Sydney Branch and the LROCV so attendance at either event is not a problem
This may however cause problems for non-members and may be the reason that people do not know the events are on.
I guess it's a case of if we want to enjoy our hobby we also need to share the costs and responsibilities that encompasses.

I would have to agree with NM, a while back I was a member of Brisbane LOC and found that it was 99% focased on the newer coil sprung Land Rovers and that leaf sprund Landys were few far between, however I did go on a few trips with my old 109" S1 but found that there was no much "socks & sandle briagde" so I didnt both to renew my membership after 1998.
I think maybe for us here in QLD having a informal gathering between like minded people would be the way to go weather your a Land Rover club member or not wouldnt matter. Just putting the idea out there.

I would have to agree with you Seriously.
Whilst the Alice Springs idea is a ripper I am just not that confident that my bum could handle 4 weeks in a series 1 :o:D
Without trying to alienate our western brothers I would think a gathering somewhere central to the eastern states might be fun (Wilcannia?).
Diana has a good point though, as soon as you organise something there is legal accountabilities that must be considered (like it or not - that's the world we live in) and usually some kind of public liability insurance is required. That's why these type of events are normally held by the big LRO clubs.
P.S. I have no idea where Paxina is?? Google earth doesn't either.

Everyones quite correct, most of the LRO clubs around the place focus on "coilers" as the Series One Register Victoria people like to smirk and it was their inviting me to The Gathering that got me back into the "club scene".
However what you have to realise is that LRO clubs will only give it's members what it's members want to put in, and in the last couple of years the series side of the LROC in Sydney is moving from strength to strength.
My advice, join your local LRO club do some networking and use the clubs resources to build up the local series 1 or series 2 side of it.
You will be surprised how many coiler owners have a series LR stashed away somewhere.

I have been actively planning Leaf spring orientated runs around SEQ for a while. Have just been waiting for an avenue to present it.
It will most probably be a few things done under the GCLRO Banner once I float it past the Committee, or it could be with a new club that focuses on Military Vehicles.
Being civvy series one's and later types, most probably GCLRO. For those of you who "Don't do clubs", you may just have to join one if you want to drive with others, or enjoy going out by yourselves.
I always said I am not a club person, but there are benefits. As long as the club is an inclusive one and not overly political and full of BS, it is usually not a problem.

Are there any oppertunities for a private gatherings in SEQLD? My SIIA is very close to registration but I also have an old farm hack series 1 which i would despiratly love to take out somewhere to get some use. I don't think places like Rover Park or LCMP allow unregistered vehicles?? please correct me as i hope i am wrong haha.
I'm definatly in for a Series I gathering in SEQLD. What do people want to do at this gathering? BBQ? Bit of driving? I (well mum and dad haha) have a small property, about 5 acres, on the cunningham highway at maryvale which as some would know is only a short drive to janowen hills 4wd park. Our block also has some challenging sections to it and a big shed and BBQ and toilet (haha it's a flash shed)... Is this what people want in SEQLD because i am more than happy to organise a weekend off work to make this happen??? It's about 1hr40mins from brissy (probs longer in series landy haha) plus unregistered vehicles can have a run on our block no problems.

On the other hand...from here in Brisbane I can see not much benefit in joining LROCS. However, if I was to attend a gathering such as Paxina as a guest, I might decide I like the idea and join purely to be part of any other such gatherings the club may have going
Can't see the sense in joining the club purely to find out what they have organised ;)
<snip> Do any of the clubs have affiliation ie LROCS and any of the other state LRO clubs? ... Very valid points there. (Sorry for jumping back in the thread).
My membership of the LROCV came about because I had attended a number of LROCV "The Gatherings" and thought I should therefore be a member of the Club, even though this was not required. In fact it was only after being a member in the LROCV then attending my local Club's Paxina and Expo that I re-joined the Sydney LROC (after 25 year lapse).
We assume a reciprocal arrangement when members of visiting (non-local) clubs attend our events, as I am sure the other clubs would do. We definately have arrangements where we invite other Clubs to our events, as they do us. However whether that would be included in the one visit as a guest, or whether on the second attendance you would have to join is a question we will have to ask the insurance company. I hope they too would consider it under reciprocal arrangements.
No the LROC in Sydney does not have an attendance requirement, unless of course you have Historic Registration under the Club.
The LROC Sydney does have a rule that you can attend a trip as a guest, however to attend a second trip you must be a member, hopefully that should be enough to give someone an idea about the Club and make a decision to get involved or not.
