View Full Version : Rear light guards

Hi all,
I've been thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some light guards on the rear for both the bumper and main clusters - hate to think how much they would cost to replace if broken. However, I refuse to pay $200 for the LR ones that look as though they wouldn't stop anything.
Has anyone come across any good alternatives, or made some up? If so, would love to hear about them.
cheers, Andy

I had a pair of these made for the bumper lamps after a runaway supermarket trolley caved one in. Have never bothered about the upper lamps & one 3/8"square end just fits in nicely between the bumper end & the lamp surround.
From memory the Genuine Parts ones have only two bars.
I fastened them with the fine thread metal roofing fasteners with the washer head that screw into steel purlins.

Thanks 4bee, looks like just the sort of thing I'd been formulating in my mind. I'd been tossing up between 3 or 4 bars - roughly what diameter are yours? Also I assume the ends are box section rather than solid bar?
Thanks again

ODs are 75mm x 240mm. Solid square bar ends. You need something with a bit of guts to weld to.
I just noticed, I drilled them for 4 x holes but only used the 2 diagonal ones & it's plenty strong enough.
Do check behind before you drill through, but on mine it was clear of any pipes & wires & just metal.
I suspect 4 bars might be pushing it a bit with lamp output. As I mentioned, the LR part has only 2 & they are on the edges, so imho the centre of those would be a great target for the corner of a supermarket trolley. In fact not much better that being without, but I guess they need to sell parts.:D

Thanks again,
I was more wondering the diameter of the actual bars? they look about 1/4" (6mm)? I've already had a good look behind the bumper - there's a few things I need to avoid but looks no problem.
based on previous experience I've pretty much decided anything that's a genuine Land Rover accessory is not for me :)

Sorry. They are 8mm as I didn't want them to bend easily.
