The diesel is in and everything is peachy, um almost. Before it warms up it puffs blue smoke intermittently, and the engine note changes at the same time for a few seconds, dunno what it is, anybody???

And just to prove it's a goer..... YouTube - Landrover series 2a

I still have the original petrol (2.25) motor but wanted a diesel cause I make bio fuel. Have not put any in yet though, I want to sort any existing problems before I add the possible dramas of bio diesel to the mix!!

Looks great relick62au, congrats.:BigThumb:
Let me know how the bio-fuel option goes I've been thinking of similar for my S3 D - although someone commented that "the pump has small scrolls which can be easily damaged"

G'day All, I'm no Series diesel expert but from my experience with little puffs blue/white coloured smoke, I would say sticking injector/s cheers mate Dennis:angel:

Sounds to me like you are getting a small amount of air in the fuel, probably from a leaky connection on the suction side of the lift pump, most likely the gasket on the water trap at the pump (but could be elsewhere).

looks good and sounds great. Puffs of white smoke may be due to sticking injectors but most often due to injection timing drifting due to a worn timing chain. If that's the case only solution is to renew chain.

If it starts well and runs well I would leave it alone.

The CAV pump is a rotary pump and does not take kindly to veg oil/bio diesel due to lubrication issues. I would be very careful to run on bio diesel.
