Well I've been gradualy putting more and more junk on our Defender till the last straw was the winch. It didn't go around corners as well as it used to .

So I went shopping as any full blooded male would do :D
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/23.jpg
Front and rear springs Heavy Duty with 2" lift  I also took PSimpson up on a pair of his fab rear dislocating cones :D
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/24.jpg
I enlisted the help of a friend James (a fellow LR owner). First the front, not too hard but We did have to push and shove
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/25.jpg
Only to realise just as it poped into place that we had left and right swapped around :wasntme: (well actually it was me)
Then the rears, only issue we had here was a broken retaining plate :(
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/26.jpg
The PSimpson cones slid in just perfect (well done mate )
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/27.jpg
Tighten up a few more bolts and heh presto all done! :ehigh5:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/03/28.jpg
A quick drive and a couple of hard bumps we heard one of the rear springs seat itself :eek2:

Now the results:
A
Standard 07 with no accessories (except a tow bar) thanks to Solmanic
B
My 07 with standard springs: Bull bar, winch, spot lights, Checker plate, Rock sliders, Bash plate, Diff guard, big stereo, Roof console, Aux fuel tank, Tow bar, Spare wheel carrier, Dual batteries........:p
C
My 07 with new HD King Springs 2" lift and all the above junk
A B C
Front RH 493mm 471mm 521mm
Front LH 500mm 492mm 521mm
Rear RH 535mm 510mm 555mm
Rear LH 535mm 525mm 558mm

So almost 35mm rise from factory not bad :D:D:D

Thanks to Andrew for measuring his car
Thanks to James for helping with the install :twobeers:

And by the way it drives like a dream now :p
:burnrubber:
Cheers,

i would also suggest upgrading the bottom spring retainers on the rear, even with the top dislocating the light weight bar they use on the bottom will eventualy bend and the spring will fall out and thats no fun when your on a nasty little hill ;)

Looks very nice.
When I installed the King springs on my Disco the size available was 40 mm lift and not 2".
Are you sure that they are 50 mm lift?
Are they special order?
Can you let me know the part numbers/
Thank you

You might be right?? I just rang them to check and they said they can call them both 2" or 40mm ???? Most of the time they say 40mm bacause as I have done I also have lots on other junk on the car but if you had a stock standard 110 with no accessories it would be a 2" lift. I hope that makes sence.
Part no.s:
Front: KRFR-03

from memory when i helped a mate fit OME springs and shocks to his disco they kit says 2" lift but it says in the specs in the book the increased height to be expected was 40mm. I think this is the norm for most 2" lift kits.

But i have king springs in the disco that i bought from discowhite i dont know how long ago, and whilst they are a bit sagged now they are still going strong, very good product.

John did you change any of the props etc?

I really wouldn't be surprised if this voids the warrenty on the car.....another member here did the same thing and had no end of issues with the 2" lift and was told by the delaership I think to return it back to standard. (I could be wrong on the last bit) but I'm pretty sure he spent a fair bit of money sorting it out

I've spoken to LR about accessories in general and they say that if a fault developes that can be attributed to a modification that you have done to the the vehicle then they will not cover said fault. Not rocket sicence really  Although it might hurt the hip pocket in the long run I will have the car I want not something off the showroom floor. I guess I just like to have things the way I like, not the way that will make sure the warranty is safe.

I'll fix any problems as they come.

but did you change the props...I believe the new defender does not like to be lifted and needs to have a double cardon joint put in as the angle is too great

No I haven't changed the uni's. I guess I want to see how it goes first. I do have a list of other mods to do to the suspension but we have driven 300km's so far lifted and no issues yet. No off road though.

John - looking at lifting my Puma now as like you I have the gear and she's sagged (after 50thou on the std springs I'm not surprissed).
Since you have had the springs in for a while how is the overall feel and handleing?
Any issues or problems? As mentioned previously others have had issues and then returned the vehicle to STD.
Any feedback would be great, as would an update.

Cheers

Hey Rugrat,

No issues at all, done 15,000km plus on these springs with no drama's. I am currently looking for long throw shocks and front dislocating cones for the next mod :)

I know - How untidy! I wonder if anyone makes a type of electronic UHF aerial that can be concealed within the bodywork somehow. That way I could preserve the simple, uncluttered lines of the Defender and maintain that stock appearance. ;)
