td5 and bio mix

are there any problems using the 20% biomix that is sold at the freedom fuels in a td5? at present i use it in a 300tdi and it runs perfectly fine but have heard plenty of conflicting stories re this fuel and the td5. thanks

my opinion on this is done to death.....

in a perfect world with perfect bio and a perfect td5 you in theory could run it at 100% bio but...

bio doesnt have the margins to deal with potential imperfections at the pressures and nozzle temps involved in a TD5.

$1400 per injector buys a lot of dino diesel.

Info for the uninitiated , As of 1 March 2008 all Diesel sold in Australia can contain up to 5% Bio . Most of you will have been running it in your engines without even knowing it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I run 20% and have been for months with no issues , I am also closer to the info around the use of Bio than most and I have yet to hear of one issue related to Bio fuel , all issues to date have been housekeeping issue of the tank owner , or other issues with the diesel not related to the bio. EG water in the Servo tank , sludge , alge etc ......
Bio is fine if you buy from reputable fuel co's like Freedom Fuels , or the other majors.

My 130 had some dramas with it. Real slow take off, staling. Stuff you can get up in 1st high had to be 1st low or else I'd stall.

I wouldn't risk it in my td5. our experience is that it can cause fuel pumps and fuel blocks to fail.
Bio just isnt as well refined as normal diesel

What annoys me is that it is no cheaper & other than a tiny stcker on the pump, there is no warning!

been caught out there, ****ed off a servo owner too, pulled up at his dieso bowser, unloaded 10 jerries, 2x 44's and was about to crack the pump when I started putting them all back.

Yes 5% is OK, even Land Rover say 5% is OK, I tried Bio in my TD5, lost power and fuel economy, I couldn't wait to put normal diesel back in.

I will be holding out till i have no choice with this.
I dont trust any company or individual who won't warrant my car, with claims of no harm, no problem.

In Alice, Opal fuel was introduced.(unleaded, non sniffable)
The fuel companys and all the "knowledgable folk" agrred that the fuel would neither harm nor change the way a vehicle ran.

Then they realised Carby vehicles were having trouble so revised the statement.

Alongside the D2 are the other familys members ULP vehicles. All EFI mid 90's.

Fuel consumption increase by as much as 25% over a tank and a rough gutless ride.
Switched to Premium which has not yet be tampered with and everything good.

I wouldnt mind if the mileage dropped alongside the price / litre. But take issue with the cost/ performance/ mileage.

I know Bio and Opal are completely different fuels,but, I wont trust the makers of BIO at this stage.

Page 5 of the Discovery Owner's Manual supplied with my DIIA states in bold print:

WARNING
This Vehicle is NOT compatible with
'Bio-diesel' fuel.

I figure that given the loss of economy, loss in power, and no real difference in cost... I'll let others discover for me whether that statement is true or just Land Rover's way of reducing warranty claims.

For my money it's simply not worth the risk at this point.
