Just tossing it behind a 4.6 and figured I didn't really want to pull it out again and it is old.....
Anyone know of a transmission specialist in Sydney who can put the 4hp24 clutch packs in and do a service/rebuild without ballsing it up? Was going to send it to ZF, haven't spoken to them yet.

Hey Mate;
AFAIK , ZF only carry out a Standard Rebuild , another words they replace worn parts with OME parts. not sure if they put in heavy duty clutch pack out of a 4hp24 , assuming your existing one is 4hp22.

Yep, existing is 4HP22.
So we need a guru then!

Just out of interest.... who do you recommend in Canberra? My ZF went a bit erratic and one guy told me i needed to spend around $5k fixing it. However, after a service it has been fine so far for around another 30 to 40 thousand k's. But would rather take it to someone who knows for next service.

Hey Ed:D
did you ever post a list of gearbox mods?
or did you have to sign a non-disclosure?;):p

When I had mine packed with all of the 4HP24 parts I had AMV do it and they sent it off somewhere, but just about everybody said that A&B transmissions (???) in Melbourne to do it. Apparently they are the guru's outside of ZF in Germany and ZF sends people there for training on the ZF transmissions.

I don't know half of the work done.
I do know that the new clutch packs have extra meat on them and there are more plates than in a standard box. Valve sprigs are heavier to.
It now has a custom oil pickup in the sump.
Since it was done at mates rates it was a case of only listing some of the work on the bill:D.
I did get a load of bits back for my amusement.

I take it there's a story behind this somewhere.......

there is....
but its painful to tell (if you happen to be George130) mildly amusing (if you are brand loyal to anything but a landy), funny (if your an automotive engineer) and educational (I use it as a "if you want to know what happens when you try to XXXX just as george130 what happened to his rig" kinda deal)
I'll let george tell the story as I tend to over emphasize some parts to highlight the importance of the particular point Im trying to make about doing certain modifications and how far you go with them.
