Gday

My brothers birthday is coming up. He was recently told he needs his brakes lines extended on his Disco II. (It has a 2" lift)

Now I thought :o maybe I could get him a set of brake lines for his Bday.

My question is, what to get? Its for a 1999 Disco II. I'd like to go reasonable quality but I have no idea of the price of brake lines :(

Could someone give me a fair idea of cost and would a normal brake specialist sell what I need?

Thanks for your help

My brother had a place like that make up a custom clutch line for me (it was a mate of his) because the one the melb landy palce sent was about 1/4 the length it needed to be!!

that was only $20 at hates rates. But any brake place should be able to make some up, just cut to the right length, and add the correct fittings and you are away.

Some places are more helpfull than others though! I can get the name of whatever place that was if it's helpfull.

Thanks mate that gives me an idea on price :)

Now would anyone by any chance know how long they should be made?

He comes home from Uni on Friday and thats his Bday so I wouldn't mind getting them before then if I could

I'm assuming you mean flexible brake hose....

I think you will find that no-one will make you extended brake lines. They are not permitted due to safety concerns.

I had a hydraulic clutch hose made up once and they were coy thinking it was for a brake.

Better buying off the shelf.

has this thing got longer travel shocks under it. lots of people think 2 inch lift means everything moves 2 inch more than stock. most 2 inch lift setups use stock travel shocks. the shock limits the travel. it it dont got longer shocks stock lines are fine.

JC on this forum had it up on the hoist, and told my brother it needs new ones in the rear as they were way to tight. By the sounds of it I'm going to have to pinch it for a day and take it into a brake place :(

Hi Jock, for a 2 inch lift you should be OK - depends on the max overall increase of the shocky travel.

These brake lines have special ends at the caliper and you can't just go to every brake service joint and get them.

One solution - for the rear of the Series2 Disco, get some Series2 fronts flexibles - they are about 100mm longer and for the fronts get some P38 lines. I know the front P38 lines are very long but I think the rear P38's will be OK but double check this (all the same fittings on the disc end).

Well got a 2 inch lift coming for the Defender

Now it's my turn to extend lines. Got them made up for about $50 each :)

BUT :(

I was just thinking after I picked them up, I asked for an extra 3 inches of length, do you reckon that will be enough?

Thanks

If it's only a 2'' suspension lift, 3'' will be heaps!
You can run standard length ones with only a 2'' lift if your shocks arn't much longer;)

I don't know whether its the same for other states but you can fit them here with engineer approval as long as they are stamped with the required ADR.

in fact I had a guy come to my house today to make mine up 80bux a line he is coming back tues as they were unsure about the connectors on the rear and didn't want to guess so Ian is going to take the rear off ready for when he comes:)

I'm not sure possibly his name is Mark Zacharia.........

Really nice bloke from what Ian tells me.....also I can get one line to seal due to my solid line having a bit of wear so he said he would also make and flare them for me really cheap!!!
