Whatever it is, for the first time I have noticed a bit of a slow down on my system.
The home page is taking about 5 seconds to load and that is about twice what it used to be.
That is on a machine that was built only about a year after the turn of the century, so most of you are probably used to faster times than that.

Denial of service attack. it means they hit the site with a heap of requests so it slows down or stops because of the volume of traffic.

Do you mean that it is a deliberate tactic employed by some low life with nothing better to do than disrupt other people's legitimate activities?

Hi Inc,
Not sure how much control you have in the way things are set up, but here's a couple of suggestions that help might slow down these mongrels.
I'm assuming that you need SSH for admin only, and therefore only legitimately required to be used by a small group of people.
1. Run ssh on a different port - this will slow down anything automated that is looking for open port 22 and attempting SSH connections.
2. Firewall rules to only allow ssh connections from your admin's IP's - this will stop the connections early on and the server wont have to do all the SSH negotiation stuff which is likely whats loading it up.
