View Full Version : LRM Club of the Month

Hi everyone. Just registered though I've often read stuff on the forum. I wonder if anyone could spare a bit of time to do something for Land Rover Monthly magazine (don't know how many of you are aware of us - find out more at Land Rover Monthly - The monthly magazine for all Land Rover, Range Rover, Discovery and Freelander enthusiasts (http://www.lrm.co.uk) ).
Every month we feature a 'Global Club of the Month' (as well as a UK club) and we try to find a LR club that's a bit different, which AULRO.com certainly is. It looks like you're pretty active in the real world as well as on-line, so I'm wondering if anyone could put together about 750 words with a selection of, say, 10-15 pictures (like the ones that you have in your on-line albums) so that we can feature the forum in the next issue of LRM.
If anyone's up for it you could drop me a personal email or post on this thread.
Thanks a lot.
Richard

well I'd volunteer but there are people much more suited to the job than me....
Inc, JC, weeds, CC, relay and dullbird just to put a few on the spot.
I tend to stick the the tech stuff.

First check to see if it needs to be written in Australian or English.

The kind of stuff we need is along the lines of; when was the club/forum formed; how many members; the kinds of topics covered on the forum; when you meet up where do you go; how often do you meet; where are members mostly located; an anecdote of two from trips/shows etc. Just enough to give LRM readers around the world an idea of what you're all about as a group.
Thanks again and don't worry if it's written in Australian, we can always get it translated on Babelfish or something... ;)

..... and mention the AULRO Courier Service. I'm trying to get the same sort of thing going on the Two Wheels forum - although there is a limit to what one can carry on a bike!
One of the members on there picked up Bucko's bike in Albury and delivered it to our home in Sydney. I delivered a Yamaha R1 fuel tank to Perth a few weeks back.

Thats ok,,
maybe you should have mentioned "we" only had 23 hours to respond:eek:
the funny thing about this place is we ARE spread all over OZ( and MANY other countries),, not all of us log-on every day,, (some of us work;))
and out of the ones that do,, maybe you didnt appeal enough?
or after all our spam and snake oil attacks we just didnt take you seriously.
I'd hate to put a spanner in Inc's World Domination plans,,
so I'll cease now,,

Obviously he had a space to fill for his printing deadline for whatever reason,he perhaps made a ''stab in the dark'',or maybe a few,to see if anyone could fill his void.It certainly was a short and succint'' too late fellas'',ah well!,we had fun before and with his enquiry and we shall continue to have fun now that we have been ''jilted''.:twobeers:
No offence meant, it just didn't seem from the initial responses that anyone was interested. There's no hurry and the offer stays open.
Have a good Easter.

I have sent a PM and will await a reply to do up something to try to make this bunch of riff raff look respectable.
I will be asking for Inc's permission and if you have a photo you think you would like to submit, I will start a new thread as soon as I have word back.

I think some shots of coopers 100" would be an impressive contribution - they impressed me.
Perhaps, Mr LRM, you could even do a special on it.
Here's the link.

just to straighten things up a bit, AULRO is not a club, it is merely a forum where members have formed social associations.
4wd clubs in australia are part of a larger body, the Australian National 4wd Council and of it's subgroups, the various state governing bodies.
there are many "real" landrover specific clubs in Australia where members pay membership fees and go on regular trips and are covered by the 4wd association's insurance scheme.

Maybe LROC are touting for the mag article, and if that's the case then fine. However Barney is right we are not a club, but not being associated with the 4WD council however, wouldn't stop us being a club if that was how we wanted it. We just wouldn't be affiliated and would have to suffer the pros and cons that would mean.

Alot of people from Europe do not realise that Australia covers an area almost the same size as Europe it's self.
Europe 9,938,000 sq Km
Austraila 7,686,850 sq Km
This is a huge reason that it is hard for club members to get together.
A lot of members living in the state capitals, have a greater chance of seeing members personaly.
The UK (244,820 sq Km) is about the size of our 2nd smallest state, Victoria (237,629 km²)
I dont know how many members are on the forum.
I don't even know how many live near me?
-----comes to a point, we should have a North QLD get together.----
I my self, live in Townsville (145,000 people)
but sum 1300Km from the state capital, of Brisbane.
As being an Austailan club, I'm sure I have seen posts from just about every continent.

At the bottom of the forum page you will find the Statistics with no. of posts, registered members, active members and so on and so forth. Inc published the visitation no.s for january and there were only a handfull of countries not included.

Patrick will mention the club whenever he can, if the story involves the LROCV, he will mention them and the same goes for the Range Rover Club (NSW) as he has membership with all three.
it's interesting to see what other enthusiasts are doing in other parts of the world, sometimes a little hard to relate to the location or the situation, but still very engaging.
