Does anyone know where to buy Lucas contact set 407050 ? These fit the 1600 motor and were a very common points set on many post war British cars

They are a dime a dozen in the UK ... a few quid a set .. but try buying em here. I'm not paying 40 bucks for a set .... I have actually seen this on E..Y

they also fit

AC, Alvis, Austin, Bedford, Commr, Karrier, Daimler, David Brown, Dodge, Ferguson, Ford, Hillman, Humber, International, Jaguar, Jensen, Massey Harris, MG, Morris, Riley, Rover, Landrover, Singer, Standard, Sunbean Talbot, Triumph, Vauxhall, Wolseley etc.

G'day Mike,
Try any agricultural repairer/dealer who are agents for Bare-Co. They should have the bits to suit a Ferguson,

Cheers Charlie

Yes Charlie, you're correct .... found the contact set on the bareco web site - number B3790 Specials New (http://www.bareco.com.au/files/massey2001/specials.htm)

Bareco have agents all over the place even in Warragul and Manangatang ! I notice they have a 12 gene listed too ....looks like a old lucas C39 . Looking at the large range of new parts available for the grey fergie ( new crankshafts ! ) ...makes me wonder why stuff like this isn't available for us series 1 anoraks. The fergy parts are obviously not old stock, but modern manufactured stuff.

I think the answer to your question, Mike is that everybody had some sort of Ferguson, or Massey Ferguson tractor at one time and they probably still do and they probably still use them.

PS Diana tells me that the Ferguson distributor cap will fit the 80", although the leads exit differently.

In my case it is an MF65 hence my knowing about Bare-co - they even supply covers for the seat cushions and the stickers for the bodywork :D

Ferguson and Land-Rover - seriously good quality. :D

Yes I spotted the dissy cap there , and the 12v coil listed has the old LUCAS type screw in connector .

Yeah fergies are ubiquitous ... Some models have the starter switch in the gear shift stick mechanism, from memory .I recall using one in 1974 ..my friend bogged his car so many times - we always borrowed the neighbours grey fergie , we once managed to bog it in the same ditch the car was in ..had to then borrow a bigger tractor to tow out the fergie and car .. 18 year olds do stuff like that.

BTW the 407050 ( Bareco B3790 ) contact sets are $8 a set through your local Bareco agent ... so very much cheaper than you see them on EPAY
