Today I enjoyed myself immensely. Misses and the chillens, (Including a cold headed Bethy:p) spent most of today at work doing much needed jobs on the RR.
Locked the gate, closed the roller door and got into it.
(Couldn't keep 2_door out though, although he DID invite himself the day before....:p)
There is something about working on a vehicle that has history. Our children have grown up in it, we've travelled some big distances in it, before I bought it it had done 250K most of it around this vast country. The engine I fitted to it out of my uncles 110 had travelled 400K around the big island since 1988. The Defender Diffs under it came from a hardworking character filled 130DC, Every scratch, dent and rattle can be traced back to its origin. The mods and additions/subtractions can be plainly seen and every one has a purpose and story behind it. When it has been parked in the sun for a bit, you can open the door and the scent of quality leather hide wafts at you, the pink ochre of central Australia is embedded in every door hinge and crack. The rooflining is thick with it.
This vehicle is like an old and dependable machine/ implement. I know it will get me where I want to go, and do it without fuss and in style:)
So, today while servicing the rear wheel bearings and fitting up some brake pads and changing all the driveline oils, I felt quite content.

Good on you... And stay with it as has some historical meaning. I was talking to a older pommy bloke here last night ( An Austin restorer and Rover owner driver) Met him when I got the 4BD1 120 as was the only person here that knew what it was.... Hard to explain this but the feeling of well restored and well maintained older machinery be car of other with this gentleman was unbelievable. Was like going back in time:eek:
Now I want to do mine:twisted:

Hi mate!
Definately drop in! We will be unlikely to be touring at that time of year, possibly some local trips though...
Yeah, she is a bit different to when you first saw her in the initial Isuzu fitup stage:eek:

Sounds like a good day JC. :)
My poor ol' jigger is sitting outside in the rain.... neglected.... actually I think I can see a tear running down her headlight. :(
Hmmm, I'll jump in shortly, take her to the servo for a drinks, pump her tyres up from the last thrashing 2 weeks ago and head into Sydney for a road trip. :)

I am enjoying cleaning up and maintaining my Defe as I enjoyed my time on the BMW bikes. :)
For some reason I was not attached to the Disco Tdi300 :( Perhaps because my previous LR was a Stage 1 109 ?

Hi Tim,
No BBQ, too much work to do:)
Back down there today too, fitted new washer bottle, 130/100 H4 globes, pulled camper trailer out to work out where to fit 3rd battery and 12volt outlets etc. If you still need those front discs, do you want to get them today? I'll be there for a while if you want to ring the Mobile:)

I agree. There's nothing quite like having a 'play' day with a Landy. I just spent a full day indulging myself. Gave the LSE a wash and chamois. Then came a very mild cut and polish. Mid afternoon I thought ahh what the hell. Out came the Meguires Tech wax and I treated it to a full wax and polish including the alloy wheels. All followed of course by the mandatory blacking of all things vinyl and rubber. Pretty tired at the end of the day but doesn't she just look like a brand newie now.

Sorry Dullbird. No pics. Still a bit of a neanderthal. No digi cam let alone the knowledge of how to put up a pic. Maybe I'll bump into one of those Vic North East chappies one day and he can snap a pic or two.

I hear you JC, Have had our RRC for around 10 years and yep you know all the stories behind every mark and noise. We RRC owners have to stick together (especially the Isuzu ones) Did a day trip yesterday with 2 other RRC's must say its not often you see 3 of us out on the same trip. My kids are the same, if I give them a choice of taking the Rangie or mums D3 the Rangie wins every time.:D. Not that I complain as its a hoot to drive.
