I dont like the spare being under the back, also if the spare is under the back why have the rear window notched at the bottom? Apart from that it looks good, any idea on price??

It's so people shorter in the arm can reach into the back.

As far as I can see it's the same design as the D3 - glass tilts up.

It doesn't feel that long since the D3 was released!
05-09 inclusive is 5 years though.
99-04 inclusive is 6 years for the D2
89-98 inclusive is 9 years for the D1 but had significant update half way through.

Makes it about right!

Yep,two vehicles that are almost the same in the upper price limit and no vehicle in the $50K Prado,Pajero area which is 90% of the market. As much as I like them the D3-D4 are a waste, they need a D1 style of vehicle to tap into the family market. Pat

Isnt that what the Weelander is for, although its a bit small for the average family.

Mate of mine picked up a new playdo last week,TD GXL,mid 50k,drive away,new,auto...............but it is a Tojo:(

I dont mind paying for a D3,OR even more for a D4,but the pain is 5 yrs later when it isnt worth much at all:(
And its service costs are way above a D2,for example:(

My brain says don't buy new, buy a low mileage 2nd hand one and let the first owner sort out any bugs with the dealer. Compelling advice I received here (Stevo?) backed this up when he told the tale of selling his D3.

But my heart asks can't I just once in my life have a brand new car? A trip to the dealer (preferably interstate), peel of the protective plastic and head off into the sunset (literally) to drive home to Perth. That would be awesome.

And then my brain says "Yeah, awesome, and you just paid about $10000 when you drove it off the lot and another $5000 in the first year. How awesome is buying one second hand and going to Europe on holiday with the money you saved or using the money to top up your super and retire before you're 70?"

Curse you, brain.

No wonder the reds, oops Labor government are taking away all your perks , if you think 50-60K is family motoring.

I believe that the price of 4WDs especially utes is the greatest come on in history.

Look at a Colorado or whatever. Import duty free and built with cheap labour in Thailand . The content of the vehicle is less than say a Commodore. I reckon they are all 10k overpriced and Toyota/Nissan/Isuzu et al are laughing all the way to the bank. Up until now the miners didn't care as they were making more money than Midas.

How much does a 4WD drivetrain cost? I reckon not more than say 5K for transfer , extra driving axle and bits and pieces.

They certainly seem to have many people convinced though.

If I remember the publicity blurb correctly when the D3 was released, the notch in the rear window was purely a styling thing ala the D2. Their research said that people identified with the unusual glass shape on the D2 so they carried it through to the D3. (A bit like the clam shell bonnet being carried through all RR models.):)

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the D3 with a mild facelift. If so, are they really going to name it a whole new Series? Echoes of 1972?

Until now I didn't notice the notch in the rear glass being on the opposite side to the D1 & D2
