Looks like a 4.4 P76 engine judging by the rocker cover and filler cap.

200HP in standard trim:)

Heaven,
one of the best cars ever made with a Rover V8.
I do miss my 74 TI.

Spent many an hour working on 504, diesels and petrols, 505Gi etc etc. I think they are vastly underrated and even the 2.3 diesel 5spd ones will hold 130km/h all day and still get 40+mpg:twisted:

The best one I had driven though was a 505Gti with eibach suspension and some hard Ferodo or metal king pads:) THAT was deceptively quick through the twisty stuff for a big car, and being able to continually brake late made for a surprisingly good point to point time.

403 and 404 diesel are used in South America as a taxis and go for ever.
The 404 ute is an awesome machine on the mud. We used them on the rice farms as a service vehicles at the John Deere dealer over there.

I love the sound of the second one....but I hate it when people do burn outs..

seriously WHAT IS THE POINT other than its coz we can! watching the second one I was like oh yeah that sounds really nice..then in came the tyre squeel and spoilt it.

Got one of these fine cars myself and the ride is incredible they are soooo smooth over rough roads and this one has pulled a caravan around Aus three times and still has the original gearbox and motor :)

Nice to see that LR owners can appreciate other fine vehicles as well.

Damn! I had many 504's and I recon that would rock with a 4.4

My bros one was still running strong with over 750k on the clock.

Love the 504's even more than the newer ones.

Whats so fun about it?

I can appreicate that if you do a burn out it means you got a powerful engine but if you have 3 different cars one having more power than the other they can all still do burn outs so what does it prove? you wouldn't know by looking at the burn out which one had more power.

Still i suppose it keeps the tyre and fuel man in business

You must be dry like my old man is:p Nothing wrong with that by the way.;) At 42 I still get a chuckle out of a good burn out though:D

Ours which was owed from new by my grandfather then my old man then my sister and is now retired (but still working!) has ran the clock around! has more then a million on the clock and with the original gear box and motor now i find that rather impressive! :)

Hey Tim

Back in my pug days I contemplated this....but I ended up putting in a V6 from a 604. I did see a rover v8 in a 504 in Brisbane and the main problem was the rear diff kept tearing out of it's mounts.

In addition, I think from memory they mated the rover v8 to a toyota gearbox...from a Supra or similar.

My old 504 took a beating...even did the plenty highway from Mount Isa to Alice Springs once.

I really miss the old 504's....my folks still have one...a 1972 in mint condition that has only done 54,000 miles!!!

Cheers
Andrew

Hey Andrew:)
A v6 sounds interesting to:cool:
I have wondered how the diff would handle it, and not shore what gbox to use either;)
Any idea of a peugeot forum with a thread on the conversion?

Don;t need much HP to do a skid, just like the VN V6 commodore I'm welding the diff in this week:twisted:, but it alot more fun with good HP:eek:

Its fun, lots of people ask why do you go 4wdriving? because you enjoy it yea?

Your right there about HP. It's all about torque and diff ratios..... Even my 4D56T mitsu can light up 31s in second on a flat change with the foot on the brakes in 1st. Once the tyres are buggered I have some fun with the young blokes here. I've also seen a stocko 1HZ Toymota on 750 X 16s make a fuss.

I need to find a way to upload some vids hey;)
