Anyone reckon there'd be a chance of getting one of these for $57180? I think the retail is $67k? Just being hopeful in these days of economic downturns and desparate car manufacturers? ;)

Still considering going 2nd hand but I don't mind the S now that its got air suspension too... and I'd prefer to have the 17" rims too... although I'd have to buy 3rd row seats after...

Thinking of salary sacrificing it through work... they do allow me to get 2nd hand cars but a new one with warranty etc would be great... but its gotta be below the luxury tax threshold :angrylock:

So the main differences between S and SE are 3rd row seat, 17" rims, single CD.. and what else? There seems to be no clear matrix of differences between models on the LR site..

Does LCT apply to second hand cars?

There are a number of cases where Luxury Car Tax does not apply on vehicle purchases over $57,123:

if the vehicle was sold or imported prior to 1st July 2000
if the car is supplied over two years following the local build date or, if imported, the vehicle compliance date.
if it is an emergency vehicle (eg ambulance etc)
if it is not GST-free and is specially fitted out for transporting disabled people seated in wheelchairs
if it is a campervan or motor home
if it is a commercial vehicle that is not designed for the principal purpose of carrying passengers.
if the vehicle is supplied by private sale

Thanks Ron interesting info - not sure if it does - but from my point of view it doesn't matter so much as its more that my employer's leasing dealers stipulate that they'll only do it with cars under the LCT.

SE has a few extras like puddle lights but the significant feature for me was the inability to option Xenon headlights, although they can be retro-fitted. Leather seats are std on the SE but they only have vynal sides that are known to crack with age/use like the sides of my D2 seats have done.
