Hello Everybody,

New to the forum, so please forgive me is this as been asked before!:o

I have a Freelander V6 SE 2001 model (Soft Top) which has developed 2 different types of warning signals.

1) A rapid flashing light on the dashboard and rapids beeps when I open the door after turning the alarm off. When I start the engine this does away.

2) A chime when I insert the key into the ignition and the door is open. This stops when the door is close.

I've had the car for over 4 years and never had this problems before.

I would really appreciate if some one can advise me on what these warnings could mean and how to fix them.

regards

Gabe

A new battery in the alarm fob will cure number 1.

Number 2 might just be a symptom of 1...

#2 sounds like the "Hey you left the keys in the ignition" warning....

The FL2 dings at you if you open the drivers door with the key in the ignition but the ignition off. Its quite annoying.

I think its to stop you getting out and locking the keys in the car some how.

As Camel Landy has said the first is the system telling you it is getting a weak signal from the fob as its battery is getting low - replace and all will be OK. Forgive me if I am telling you something you already know but when you put the new battery in the fob will not work - you will need to be next to the car an alternative push the lock and unlock buttons on the fob for about 5 times one after the other - it will then work.

As for the second issue - I also guess it is something to do with the first. If it is not fixed and it annoys you then the car will need to go onto the test book to play around with the security ECU - there are a whole bunch of settings in there that can be changed.

My Disco1 has a chime when the ignition key is left in the lock in the door, it's just a warning that you have left the keys in the ignition..... I don't know why because the key is attached to the fob keyring, so I couldn't lock the keys inside without removing them and pressing the fob out side the vehicle anyway.
Unless it's to stop the central locking system locking your car after a set time with the key in the ignition.
I believe the Discos had an auto locking anti theft system if you forgot to lock the car after exiting... about 10 mins later

you can lock your keys in the car. my then 5 year old son was in the car, keys were in the ignition & I was out side the car doing something (I don't remember what). He opened the door, knocked the lock doors button on the door, got out & then closed the door & hey presto locked the keys in the car. Then he asked me for the keys to unlock the car so he could get back inside to finish whatever he'd been doing. Needed a call to the NRMA as the spare keys were about 40 k's away at work.
