Hi all,

I'm having some probs with my engine at the moment.
The other day it started caughing, so i did some investigation and found it only does it 2400 RPM and over whilst trying to accellerate (giving it a bootfull), can still drive it no dramas.

Was just wondering if anyone can give any advice as to what the prob may be and how much it looks like i'm up for.

I'm not too sure, but the first thing I'd check would be the oil in the loom problem. Have a little search on here. I think they are pretty much all affected by it.

First of all check for a delaminated/ burst intercooler hose. The ones from the turbo to the IC on the passenger side are the prime offenders. Common problem.

Also the wastegate modulator (Not on Defenders) valve can fail, this is a small electrically controlled valve bolted to the side of the AC bracket, connected by small hoses to wastegate, air inlet and high pressure side of turbo. (This valve can be bypassed to test. Run a new piece of small ID hose from wastgate directly to the high pressure side of turbo.)

The wastegate can stick closed, giving the ECU an overboost signal and momentarily cutting fuel, but this generally occurrs at higher RPM and under bigger loads

Finally, A Faulty MAF can cause a lack of power but usually not that badly.

Do you need a new piece of hose or can you use the existing ones? I imagine if it is the modulator you should notice the powerand responsiveness straight away right?

I have been thinking my modulator might be the culprit to my problems. Generally been getting a lack of power. Checked with my nanocom and got no reading from it. Does it function all the time? and what sort of reading should you expect?

Angus

p.s- sorry for the hijack...

The existing ones CAN be used, but it is quicker to just get a bit and plug it in and go for a drive.
Don't forget to plug up the connection in the air inlet.

$50 from LR, not much cheaper from a non dealer, if any.
