Gday all

Bare with me as it's my first post, I've probably spent 20+ hours reading on this forum though

I have a 2004 defender 90 thats done 100000k's. The surging is not consistent with throttle aplication or rev range and it does it when is't hot and cold. It's quite a violent surge and feels like the fuel being fully cut off but only for less than a second

After lots of read it sounded like a sticky waste gate or over boost, althought i don't think it has ever gone into limp mode. So i've given the waste gate rod's pivot points heaps of lube and have opened and closed it a bunch of times. i've also backed the boost off 1 and a half turns now and it hasn't made any difference

The engine light has come on once but only since adjusting the boost

Also the plastic engine cover had worn though the vacume line comeing off the egr. I have repaired it but it's not perfect, thought it was a long shot

Sorry about the long story but i thought i should get all the info i can think of out there so not to waste your time backwards and forwards posting

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for all the help this far too

Cheers Sam

Are you anywhere near a rovacom or someone with diagnostic capabilities? There is a section on the site that lists members with diagnostic equipment.
I would suggest it may be the throttle potentiometer if the wastegate isn't the problem. This will show up as a 'driver demand error'.

I agree, throttle pedal, or possibly fuel pump / fuel pump relay issue?

I 'm at East Kurrajong near Windsor/ Richmond Nsw

I'll have a look for that list and see, I was thinking if i can't sort it out i would take it to Davis landys but that could cost me an arm and a leg

Thanks Sam
