swap rear d1 tail shaft

Hi , any info would be appreciated . I've heard it's possible to swap the rear d1 tail shaft for a rear rangie tail shaft to enable you to use uni joints rather than the rubber coupling they come with . Is this a big job ? Does the pinion flange need to be changed ? Does it all bolt straight up ? Cheers

Yeap its possible iv just had mine done...

Just need to get the 4 bolt shaft and a 4 bolt flange kit cost me about $200...and it is recommended if you have a lift kit!

I had mine done when the Maxidrive was fitted, early D1 and RRC shafts are used with a flange kit.

(D2 has a rotoflex coupling too)

You need the tail shalf Uni both ends.
flange, 4 bolt .
spacer from 4 bolt flange.

I did it to my D1 then transferred it to the D2.

One of the better mods to do if you have a lift or extra travel in your suspension. The roto flex coupling "doesn't" when drooped more than standard settings.

I take it Grover that $200 is only for used parts? Need to do this on mine as I have a 2 inc lift plus droped rear top shock mounts.

My flange new from British Offroad was $110 with a seal. I already had a tail shaft from a Range Rover. If I had put the required spacer in the first time it would have been quite an easy job. The hardest bit was pulling the spigot out. I used a piece of pipe with a bit of flat with a hole in it. Then put a bolt with a nut wound up to the head in. The when it was tight I wound down the nut which pulled the spigot out. You can use the new flange in stead of the pipe. So all you need is a bolt about 70mm long high tensile and something to go across the end of the flange with a hole in it. Don't forget the spacer.
