Hi, Im after some advice, Im looking at a D2 Apr 01 build TD5, I cant get to see it straight away and Im trying to find out if it has a CDL if it hasnt I will simply look for another in that price range.
I have the VIN and phoned LR Customer Service and they said they couldnt help me, does anyone know when they stopped putting CDL in ??
I just need to get an idea if it has before driving to check it out
Thanks in advance

"LR customer Service" - they need to remove the word service out of that name...
sorry I don't know but I have seen it listed here before - search time?

Actually I think you need the Transfer case part/serial number - guys?

This is from Ashcrofts Transmission web page

The early Disco II"s were not supplied with a centre diff lock function for the LT 230 transfer case but this has recently become an option when ordering a new vehicle.

The first Disco II"s had the diff lock capability on the transfer case but this was then phased out on the later ones.

We are able to supply both the linkage assembly and the parts to convert the transfer case if required.
The linkage is easy to fit, cable operated and very neat, cost is £ 245.

If you have the diff lock stud on your unit you will only require the linkage parts, to determine this you will need to find the transfer case serial number and check it starts with either 41D or 42D.

If it starts 61D, 62D, 69D or 70D then you will need the diff lock parts to go in the transfer case which are an additional £ 225.

* CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK, WE ARE WORKING ON AN ALTERNATIVE*

Hope this clears it up, basicly if you get a D2 pre August 2002 you'll need to fit a CDL lever or lever and internals.

You have to remember in the UK the D2 was released in 1998 and in Australia it was released in 1999, so you need to look at the build date on the compliance plate.

The only CDL installed as factory fit in the D2 are the later, MY03 vehicles, the one with the pocket lights, and a few other things that were different.

Many were fitted to earlier models with aftermarket kits.

No, up until 02, the D2s had a centre difflock, there was just no connection to turn it on or off unless you climbed under the vehicle with a spanner. In the 02, they took out the centre diff lock internals, then put them back in AND hooked it up to make it selectable in the 03 onwards.

Cool, thats the answer I was after, I will pick it up in the morning. All I have to do is find how to make one off those levers to activate it or try to setup an in cab system with a truck fuel cutoff I have.

I will post picks tomorrow, I am really looking forward to getting this thing dirty as I already have my camper.

Its got a full service LR history and never been off the black stuff. The dealer said it is a real "Toorac" tractor.

So if anyone see's a Diahatsu Feroza struggling on the freeway to Sydney, it will be me taking my "Rosie" on her last trip with me.

What should be said is all MY03 have factory fitted CDL with selectable LEVER inside cab similar to D1.

Earlier D2 were as said....

There are literally thousands of posts about installing the CDL lever,,
There are cheap ways and uber expensive ways.
If money were no object I'd buy (new or second hand:angel:) the original part from a D2A.
