Made these a few weeks ago just before the Ourimbah run. They're a simple design just to replace the factory plastic sills, yet the're pretty tough and I've jacked the car up on them as a test and they seemed fine.
Oh and they're lovingly ocated in 2 layers of bunnings black :)

Nice work Boxer! I like them a lot!
The other good thing is that with the slider step slightly down from the door, when you land on them and they flex a bit then you can still open you door properly without having to bounce them back down again!

Looking good, I made a similar set myself a few moons ago (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/72383-compressor-engine-bay.html) (for a 90 tho). I'm yet to get them galvanised and then painted / powdercoated... How are you planing to finish yours?

Yeah, I kept that in mind, they're pretty much bend proof I think. You'd have to land pretty hard on them to make them move. I've seen a few others where they run maybe 5 bolts, but I figured running more is only going to distribute the load more.

nice work Boxer, careful or old mate Carlos will be placing his orders ;) I know he is about to make his (and mine hopefully) so some pics from underneath would be appreciated. Did you run some flat plate up the inside of the body moulding where the bolts go thru?
cheers

Boxer they look fantastic, there are some very talented people on this forum, I could'nt even replicate that out of cardboard let alone steel.
Not interested in doing any more for a little profit on the side are you?

Thanks guys. These are my first set and I kept them pretty simple. The plate that bolts them to the body is welded to the sliders on the top edge and the back and it's 3mm, so it won't go anywhere. On the inside I've only run gal bolts through with washers. I had people suggesting crush tube and the like, but it all comes down to what you need them for. If I was builing a comp truck (which would be fun), they'd be off the chassis and Mack Truck proof, but these will do the job for the kind of driving I do :)
Oh and yeah, I'm keen to do more, it's just a matter of digging up the hours, but that should be achieveable.
Will try getting some underside pics tomorrow.

Looks excellent boxer can’t wait for the underside picks.:arms:
On another point when you fitted your flares do you still have the plastic inner guards in the wheel arches.

Here's a quick shot I grabbed this morning. As you can see they're pretty basic. The plate that bolts to the sill is stitch welded to the panel up the top and on the back. If I was to go any further with them I would have run a 50 bar welded to it under the sill itself which would be bolted underneath using rivnuts. But as I said before it's a matter of usage and by doing that I'm again adding weight and further trashing my fuel consumption :P

Great job Boxer. I have had the material for a while to do mine but the bend in the sill was stopping me(no talent). How did you bend the bar. I was thinking of putting the box section(75x50) on its 75mm side on a peice of timber at one end the driving on it. Not sure how this would go though. I dont have access to a oxy. Cheers Brett:)

Interesting design Mark. Ill be doing mine the way I did the old RRC of mine. Basically box section UNDER the sill itself, with two plates running up either side of the sill (also acts like a crush protector so wont crush stills when tighening). Then add the side rails like you did for lower door protection.
With your type of driving (if stunting is anything to go by) you should have gone full on rock sliders :D

I thought about doing mine that way, but ground clearance is my game :)

Mark , what did you end up using , 75mm x 50 mm RHS ? was it 3mm plate or 4mm plate you used for the top part ?
Boxer

Used 505 x 50 on mine, but the other sets were 75 x 50 and 3mm plate. Also gave the 75mm ones a curve to follow the doors, mine were simple.
