I thought i should start a thread on my progress so far:)

First i welded crush tubes into where i planed to mount it, then i gave the whole rear part of the chassis a coat of ex-trol, then painted over it with some cheap black..

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/04/659.jpg

Then we made up the mounting brackets out of 5 or 6mm plate (can't remember)
I'm using 12mm 8.8 high tensile bolts (4 of) probebly an over kill but i plan on mounting recovery points on it aswell;)

Hey Allan:)
Yep ours is a mig and it's a transmig195 amp (gass), it's a realy old welder (about 20 years old) so the technology would have changed alot by now, i think the brand is ''CIG'';)
So far (dad bought it new along time ago) it has done the job just fine, dad built an alloy camper trailer with it and many other jobs:)
Your best bet would be to go the biggest welder you can afford, if we bought another mig it would be a 250amp so you can weld alloy without a problem;)
There going cheap on ebay at the moment:D

Good thing about the D1's is you don't really need those lower tail lights.

I agree maybe just silver for the recovery points? to match the checker plate? or will that be black as well?

I love the design! is that as far in the rear bar can be tucked?

Yeah no worries:)
There would be heaps of ways to make my bar look better, but i wasn't really after a good look, mainly i wanted something solid that i don't have to worry about if i reverse into a tree or bank:angel:
Once the checker plate is on i'm thinking about maybe a spare wheel carrier and some reverse lights mounted on the bar somewhere;)

It looks good mate. Adding some lights to the bar at this stage will be a pain! You would have to remove the bar, but the back opposite where you want to place the lights, cut the front to position lights (or if your screwing then on using LED type, drill holes for cabling) then manke up mounting brackers for the inside of bar etc etc etc.

Probably better of mounting some lights on a roof rack.

PS: You still got the trailer plug hanging down :P :P

Yep and when you cut the hole it will damage the paint around it, ......no thanks, it is quite a pain to get off:angel:
I might put some small reverse lights up high around about where the rear window washer nozle is, i reckon it would be pretty easy.
