Im finding I cannot do alot of diagnosis without a trip (350 k) to a testbook spread.
I now have a dead D2 Td5 (see my thread -D2 Auto gearbox M&S lights both flashing) and will probably need to go to the dealer on the back of a truck!

What is a reasonable type of scanner suitable for a 2001 D2 TD5? (ISO?)
Read some previos postings and scoured the internet. Its a jungle out there
Any suggestions welcome

For the D2: Nanocom or Blackbox-Solutions Faultmate (Rovacom). In your case the Faultmate will do everything including the transmission ECU. I don't believe the Nanocom interfaces to the transmission ECU as yet.

That said, the Nanocom's a lot cheaper alternative and I suspect the M+S issue is probably not an ECU fault that won't self clear given the right corrective actions.
