Gday all, spotted this strange S2 at the road transport meusem in Alice Springs at the start of the year. Can't rember its story other than it was used with another LR. Nothing is origanal. The radiator is on the roof to avoid getting cloged with grass and the seat in frond is for spoting. It has huge aircraft tyres too. I did take a whole lot more pics but they got deleted.

The board to the left of frame has the info.

Yeah saw that too at the Road Transport Museum in Alice. Lassiters search Landy. The radiator up there would have been a classic to top up.

I suppose if he found the legendary reef he could have afforded to do the old girl up.

A good day out there and the Ghan museum as well is a good visit.

The water pump would wonna be good, there's a bit of head to get it up to the roof at a decent flow rate.......

Yes it belonged to the son of Harold Lassiter who believed that he found a gold reef near the NT/WA border in 1897. Lassiter senior was ridiculed as being delirious at the time of the original find and despite several attempts never managed to re-discover the reef.

His son who wanted to clear his fathers name also spent many years trying to find his fathers gold. The seat on the roof is there because Harold Lassiter found the reef from the back of a camel and the son reasoned that by following his fathers diary and being seated at the same height he would have a better chance of re-discovering the reef.

I can remember it being on the TV news in the late 1960's.

Len was a true outback legend - and I havent seen to much of his equipment which has been restored and within a display.

All the best
