2000 V8 Disco needs water drained from engine & radiator

Anyone know how to get the water out of the engine block without making a huge mess? Have looked for drain plugs in radiator & block & can't seem to locate.

pull the bottom radiator hose off, don't burn your self though. should buy a work shop manual and it will give you the location of the drain bolt in the engine block and radiator. it is better to drain the radiator and the block as just doing the radiator can leave some old coolant in the engine, make sur you put the correct coolant inhibitor in the engine as the V8 is an aluminium engine it prevents corrosion.

Thanks, lambrover. You've confirmed my thoughts on it. Will have to locate a manual soon for future use. Didn't want to just drain radiator, but can't seem to find the engine bung & don't want to proceed further until I find out where it is. May seek out local dealer for info to get me going on the holiday weekend.

There are drain plugs on either side of the block.

Look on either side of the block from underneath, and you will see one on each side, towards the rear, each is a four sided threaded plug.

Considering that it's 9 years old I would get it done by a specialist and a condition report.Just changing the coolant will achieve squat. Pat

I think they are just near the knock sensors.

If it is anything like my RRC and I think it will be the same , the drain bungs are behind/inside the engine mount brackets and impossible to access.

The alternative is to flush the system a few times with distilled water.

I have found the cleanest way to drain the radiator is to just put a siphon in the top radiator bung and run it to the bottom of the radiator into a bucket.

I have not taken notice of whether the plastic rad cars have a filler bung but so disregard if they don't.

I think the plugs are easily accessible on a P38A, maybe the same on a D2.

Does the radiator have a drain plug? The plastic capped one on a P38A does.

PhilipA, doesn't the RRC have the header tanks down the side so you can put a hose down there? I also remember my Classic having drain taps on either side of the block which made it easier than the square-ended plugs on the 4.0/4.6.

I'm sure the bungs on our D2 are near the engine mounts as they are definitely not to be found anywhere else! We did find a couple other "goodies" left behind by the prior service people....we were not impressed. Wouldn't you think if you lost a spark plug you'd actually go looking for it?!
