View Full Version : Dual Exhaust and a couple of other bits

Just wanted to share the new look at the rear of my Rangie.

2" dual system with stainless tips. The trick was getting a muffler with dual inlets and outlets so it would fit in the space allocated to the original muffler. Then it was bent and fitted nice and tight to the body with resonators just before the stainless tips.

Clearance has actually improved at the rear with this system compared to the previous resonator.

And the sound? Fully sick mate :D Perhaps a touch louder than it should be but geez does it bring a smile to my face. I love the sound of a Rover V8 that is breathing easy.

Project for the weekend is to find a way to keep the air hose for the rear locker well away from the pipes when the car is on low height.

The circular fitting above the LR logo is the rear reversing camera. I tried to put it in a symmetrical location opposite the boot release button. In the pic below you can just make out the oversized rear mirror which doubles as the screen for the reversing camera. It also has a second video input that one day I'll use for a forward-facing camera at diff level :cool:

Shown with road wheels and tyres (Cooper HT Plus 265/60R18).

cheers
Paul.

Nice looking. Your numberplate needs lifting though.

Any side pics with the new wheels?

Ta Andy. As you can probably tell, I've put the skinny numberplate from the front at the rear. That's about the only place it fits with the extra numberplate light fitting. Am loathe to mount it off-centre to the left of the orignal fitting in case some bored Highway Patrol person pulls me up 'coz the spare wheel might obstruct it a little.

Will get some side pics at various heights for you over the next couple of days, but can't promise that I will give it a wash first :p You'll just have to picture the alloys through the mud and dirt.

Cheers, Paul.

That wheel on the back looks huge. Thats one of your 18 inch wheels?

Yep Willem - 18" wheels with Cooper HT Plus 265/60R18 tyres. Still a smaller OD than the 16" wheels with 33" Maxxis Bighorns I keep for off-road play.

Went for a lttle impromptu off-roading with my son last weekend but forgot to swap over the tyres first. The HT's were surprisingly good in mud puddles and over dirt mounds where my boy managed to bottom out the chassis. Not so good at climbing a steep grass slope where I started to slide sideways... 2 switches on... air-locker engaged and up it went anyway

Andy - here's the side pic you asked about. This is at Standard height = 880mm from ground to wheel arch. High = 935mm.

I've been thinking of putting dual pipes on. Did you do this yourself?

I've been thinking of putting dual pipes on. Did you do this yourself?

Unfortunately not, it was a done by a local exhaust place in Canberra for approx $900. If I could bend pipes and weld like these guys I'd have a snorkel on my Rangie by now ;)

Cheers, Paul.

Looks real good Paul. Thinking of going to see Andrew E to pickup my bits that he has stored but might come through Canberra to meet and see it in the flesh if you are up.
Cheers,
Remy

Hi Paul,

I thought during a long time about to place the reverse camera at this location.

May you shoot a picture of the view on the screen?

Thanks

Hi Flo

a couple of pics as requested

Screen clipped over the existing mirror. Note how it has a second video input for a future forward-facing camera (The fluffy dice are optional but add to the prestige of the car :) ).

My son posing as the model... the distance markers on the display do nothing as far as I can tell.

The camera mounted above the LR logo.

Thanks Hoges - the system was replaced from the rear of the cats by Pete at Top Spec Automotive in Hume, ACT.

If you're down this way, give me a yell and we'll catch up for a brew.

Agree about sons... especially now mine has his P plates and is heading down the coast tomorrow via the Kings Hwy... what a dodgy bit of road that is... I won't rest easy until I know he is safe.

Gees i love this car. All thats missing is bigger tyres and bigger motor.

... and a new transmission, passenger doors, new/resprayed bonnet, air bags and bump stops, speedo correction unit, front and rear winches, leather seats, rock sliders, steering guard, car-puter, and maybe a supercharger or turbo ;)

It never ends. At least I got my FaultMate and managed to flatten the battery in the car first time I used it.

Cheers, Paul.

About to close one of my old web sites... the embedded pics in previous posts will cease working on 2-Sep... here are the replacement pics of the dual exhausts.

Unfortunately, I can't edit old posts and update the links directly, so I'll have to leave the rest. All of my pics are currently located at http://cordwellis.com/gallery/main.php (http://paulp38a.com/) but will soon reside at http://paulp38a.com (http://paulp38a.com/)

'The Black Hole'....................cos it eats money. Very good. And the number plates..................humble, that's what I like to see.

Quick question, rear wheel carrier cos 18" wheels won't fit inside ?, using the space for something else ?, 2 spares ? or just cos ?

Thanks DeanoH - I like the plates too. They only make sense to someone who knows Rangies.

Rear wheel carrier 'coz neither the 255/85R16 muddies or 265/60R18 roadies will fit in the spare wheel well.

Currently using the space for storing tools, recovery equipment and misc crap. One day perhaps for 2nd battery.

Cheers Paul.
