Has anyone fitted a QT diff guard to a P38A?
I bought one last year from Rovacraft and finally got around to fitting it today (I wanted access to a hoist).
The trouble is that the guard attaches to 3 bolts at the bottom and 2 bolts at the top of the diff carrier. OK, that would be OK except the bolts in the diff housing are too short to go through the metal of the diff guard and to leave enough thread for the nylock nut. The ends of bolts in the housing are flush with the nylon end of the nyloc.
It looks like the diff has to come out and new longer studs inserted from inside the axle housing - But I can't be sure. I need to look inside a P38A axle housing.
Alternatively, does anyone want to buy a cheap(er) diff guard?

Ah. Wait.......
I've just checked the parts book. It shows and specifies a stud, 3/8" UNF x 1-1/4" Gahhhh!
Oh well, I can buy some studs and go and borrow the hoist again. Never listen to LR mechanics! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/04/358.jpg
Late edit. No, the parts book is wrong. The bolts are fitted from inside the housing.

So you need to remove the center and fit longer studs, in order to fit a diff guard? bugger that, If it is going through the nut, but not the nylon bit, just replace it with a normal nut and locktite the thread.
I have allways wondered what the purpose of a rear diff guard is. The only bit you can damage is the rear cover, and thats pretty safe unless you reverse into somthing. Or is their purpose to help you slide over somthing?
you might need those tyres i was talking about after all.....

Have a look one day at the mangled mess I have under my diffs, and you will see excactly why they are fitted.
A bit of peice of mind too when you drop them on a big rock.
But this is the rangie section, not much chance of that at the golf course:twisted:

PS. Ron the QT stuff is great. I love the look of the P38 slider. I have a Qt front and Bearmach rear.

Andy, if you have a P38A axle housing that doesn't have a diff in it, would you be kind enough to look to see if they use screw in studs or ones like the wheel hubs, i.e., splined studs that would be pulled through.
If they are standard studs, I'll try the old two-nut lock and try to unscrew the studs.

Yep, back into something, dent the thin cover, and the crown wheel wears a hole through it. I probably should have bought the front diff guard, though, not the rear. :(

I may need to come over and have a look - unless you or Erich can shove your head inside it! :D

This is a very late update to this thread.
I went to Erich's and checked a diff housing and the bolts definitely push in from inside the housing. They are not threaded studs like the Disco which can be replaced externally.

I think I can make it fit with modified nuts though ron.

Andy - I may have a little challenge for you if Ron and Razza are willing ;) See this post http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range-rover/97686-hra-need-bullbar-3.html#post1189173
