I have been looking at getting some Arnott GenIII's for a while now, but seem to be having trouble sourcing them. Today I spoke to Range-Rov who were saying that the OEM Dunlops have been redesigned to change the spring rate to make them more like the Arnott's. Is this true?? They also didn't seem to think too much of the Arnott as they reckon they have had quite a few come back, with pin holes in the rubber role at the bottom.

What do you think.

Hi Stu - don't know about the Dunlops sorry but am pretty happy with the Gen III's.

Seemed to make a big difference in my last P38A when I went from OE bags to the Gen III's. My current P38A already had the Gen III's when I bought it and they must be at least 3 years old and have had a hard life.

Despite my current suspension concerns, I don't think the air springs are the problem.

I guess it comes down to what you want them for. I found on-road handling to be a bit better with the Gen III's than the OE bags, but it was off-road when the Gen III's were much better... better/softer ride and more travel.

HRA (http://hra4x4.com.au) in Perth can supply them or you can buy them direct from Arnott Industries (http://www.arnottindustries.com/) in the US. I was lucky with the exchange rate when I bought mine last year... about AUD900 delivered to my door . Have heard the prices are much steeper now :(.

cheers
Paul.

do the new designed dunlops still pop apart when you put the car on a 2 post car hoist, or jack the car up too high?

I put mine up on a 2-poster often enough and have only ever had an airbag pop off once.

When i did the coil spring conversion the other day, i poped a bag out, jacking the body up until the wheels came off the ground. It may have even been an arnott gen 1.

Ahh. Mine are Arnotts front and rear. The rears are a complete Arnott air spring. The fronts are Arnotts bellows on OEM pistons.

I have the latest OEM units (the updated ones) fitted to mine, they've been on now for 2 weeks, running really nice together with Bilstein's 'optimised' for air springs

Spoke to Rovacraft today, who had the same opinion about the Arnotts as Range-Rov. Haven't sold them for close to 3-4 years as they had too many returns. I'm not really after turning mine into a real off-road beast, So am coming round to using the new OEM units. Will be ordering a set of Billies as they have such a good reputation.

Do you think OEM units would be capable of a mild lift, just one inch???

Stu

P.S. What steering dampener would you recomend?

I also had a Bilstein steering damper fitted, made a HUGE difference!

So far, I can highly recommend the new gen OEM air suspension combined with Bilstein's.
Not the cheapest option, but if you're gonna hang on to your P38 for a few years yet, well worth it I reckon.

Don't know about lift, better to ask the experts such as Range Rov or RovaCraft etc., my only experience with lift is with springs.

"Do you think OEM units would be capable of a mild lift, just one inch???"

Hi Stu...why not just re-set the EAS to run a 1" higher setting?!! "
The EAS "high" setting is well able to accommodate an additional 40mm as is just by changing the sensor bit counts with a Faultmate or the free software and DIY cable referenced elsewhere in these forums...

Denis @ Rover Renovations is developing a set of "extenders" for the EAS sensor legs to accommodate greater axle/body displacement available with the Arnott Gen 3s and extended shocks...

hope this helps

Dennis is sending me a set of these to try out on my lifted P38 with the Gen III's you speak of. Will report back on how they go.

There's a bloke in Colorado with a similar setup to mine who has already extended Dennis' legs even further. Thread over at RangeRovers.net here (http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30443&sid=48cc6f40f19fdf1cd58811014e670453)
