Rear airbags in off road conditions

Considering fitting airbags to the rear of my 98defender for a bit of lift when towing.How do they go in off road situations eg CSR or bush tracks.Have you had a problem with punctures from stones ,sticks etc
Your experience with durability would be helpful
Also some tips on suppliers would be good too-I'm in VIC

I got a great price on "air bags" from trucksprings.com in the US

the dollar was at $0.92 USD though

nothing serious.

They are in my disco, mostly work transport, rarely off road

(I don't trust the POS...)

I have done a fair amount of off roading with polyairs installed.

They have worked flawlessly and did not appear to adversely affect articulation etc.

However on the last trip out I copped a stick right through the spring and air bag. I didn't notice it until I was airing up tyres and checked the polyair pressure which was 0psi.

A new one is around $120 but like everyone funds are tight so I have put it on hold for the last two months.

I now keep the air pressure low on the other polyair otherwise it does sway a little more than when both at the same pressure.

Hopefully next pay I can install the new one.

A replacement bag (1 only) is $120 as I don't need all the hoses etc.

I had polyairs on my disco for 13 years and they were still going strong when I sold the car. I bought them to travel the CSR and installed them on the way, as the so called heavy duty suspension wasn't so heavy duty (not realised until the car was fully loaded the night before leaving).

Does any one use the old trick of a dozen or so tennis balls stuffed into the spring whilst at maximum extension? I've used it myself many years ago, and was a very cheap mod.
