99 P38a - EAS lean to the right.

G'day guys,

Just occasionally my P38 decides to take a lean to the right - as though the right side is at access level and the left is at normal ride height. It usually happens after I have used the manual override switch on the dashboard. I used it tonight to lower the car to access height when I took my wife out for a coffee. When we got back in the car the left side went up to normal ride height, but the right did not.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this? There is no fault showing on the display, and the car is not yelling at me that there is an EAS fault.

had similar gremlins plus other issues...finally changed out the EAS "Driver" block (black box attached to the valveblock behind the compressor) (Don't buy locally...close to $500+ even seen $700...see Btitisih Parts UK ...about $340 including courier costs.. No real diagnostic test for the drive box other than by replacing and see what happens...

Willem - you are a 7 foot giant of a man. I'm not surprised that your EAS is leaning to the right when you are driving :p Bet it leans to the left when you are a passenger too :p

Paul, Paul, what you have to realize is that I'm normal and everybody else is short! :angel::angel:

In any case, its irrelevant, because the EAS is supposed to compensate automatically for different loads. And, As I mentioned, it only happens sometimes.

I have been reading the EAS calibration thread - thanks for the link, BTW - and I will be making use of it. (Actually, I read all of the P38a threads. Just reading them builds up your knowledge base, and that is useful.) But That deals with the calibration of the system and this seems to me to be more of a problem that has a solution apart from just a calibration. Especially seeing as it only happens sometimes and the system works fine the rest of the time.

For what it is worth. My LSE had a hiccup with its EAS. Seems the electronics got its nickers in a knot. To cut a long story short the simple answer was to turn the engine off, disable the EAS system with the under seat master switch and then shut all doors. Then reverse the procedure - restart engine first and turn EAS back on. With all doors shut the problem solved itself instantly.

It gets interestinger and interestinger!

This morning it was still leaning to the right when I went out, but when I went round a roundabout pretty quickly, with the corresponding lean to the left, the problem fixed itself!

Hmmm. I wonder if it is a sensor misbehaving. I'll have look tomorrow.

Calibration should not be the issue.

Is it leaning equally at the front and the rear on the "lean side". or is it possibly one corner dropping down, making it look like a lean on one side ?

I would suggest a closer look at height sensors, the afformentioned driver block, and possibly even the valve block could have a sticky solenoid or diaphragm.

I had the same problem, it was a slow leak with my LHS Front airbag. Took me 30 mins to swap it out for a new one and problem solved
