As you know I'm off to the US on holiday tomorrow.

But I'm undecided as to which camera to lug around.

Do I take:

a DSLR (Pentax *istD) and 18-200mm lens (and maybe one other lens)
a DSLR look-alike (Fuji FinePix S5500) with 10:1 zoom
a point and shoot (Kodak C310 4Mp or Nikon Coolpix 2500 2Mp)
a combination of the above?

The weight is the key. The Pentax is relatively light (for a DSLR). I have a Lowepro CompuDaypak backpack but I'm not taking my laptop so that's a relief! I don't know whether to take the flashgun.

I can probably fit 3-days worth of clothes in the backpack for my trip to a car show in Vancouver. I think I'd like the DSLR for that but I'm not sure.

Decisions! Decisions! :(

DSLR and 18-200 would be my choice given that selection. THe P&S are of the old school and won't give good shots. The Fuji I don't think gives as good a range zoom as the 18-200.

I would take the DSLR with the 18-200 and wouldn't bother with another lense if weight is an issue

I'd go the DSLR too. I take it that the car show is indoors. The DSLR should give you better pictures in lower light conditions than the other cameras with smaller sensors.

I will take the DSRL and make sure that the Kodak is left at home ;)

No, the car show is outside at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver.

The Kodak was one my son owned. I'd never used it until yesterday. I was thinking compact and portable.

Save yourself the trouble.

You know it'll fail.

I took the DSLR.

Today's shots taken as we flew through the snow-covered mountains around Vancouver didn't come out very well - nor did the pix of a hooker picking up a john outside my hotel. :(

I wanted to post them in the new photo comp but I need the sequence of shots, not just a single pic.

By heck, there's a few crackheads around here.

well if there is a few crack heads maybe you could get a picture of a deal going down:D

remember though Ron black and white setting unless you have your post process software with you.;)

Hmm. I think I took some pix of coppers taking a drug dealer down outside my hotel.

As you can guess I'm staying in a salubrious part of Vancouver! :D

(I've got PhotoShop on this borrowed laptop.)

The new comp is for photos of hookers !!
I might have to do a Canterbury Rd run to see what they're like :p.

Well, for this holiday in Singapore, I've decided which camera I'm taking.

My phone.

It's a damn sight easier to carry and takes just as good a photo as any of my others.

The DSLR is just a pain to carry around for taking the very occasional photo.
