Hi guys I have manged to get my hands on a Sahara bar for my D2 (thanks 29dinosaur)
Is there anyone in eastern subs melb that can fit it for a reasonable price? Is there anyone you would recommend? I would do it myself, however I just do not have the time, it also need's the winch wiring up etc.

I called ARB in Richmond and they said they would look at it, but it had to go through the bosses approval as they are not meant to fit them to D2's however they have doen it before....... If they thought the bar was in good condition they will consider it........... It will cost me approx $200..

The bar also has the holes inset for fog lights. I would like to relocate my factory LR foggies into the ARB bar where the holes are, the next shock ARB fog lights for the bar are $500.:o
Surely there is an aftermarket option that will fit into the hole insets in the bar?

Any help/advice appreciated!!:)

Sounds like it will just be a complete nightmare to install and not worth it......., I think the only option is to sell and ship it to me in the UK!! :p:p:p

What are they talking about its a D2 bar all be it the update one...:)
So them saying they are not suppose to fit them to D2's is rubbish.

from reading disco dans tutorial the only thing that needs to happen to make it fit is cosmetic

As long as the bar is airbag compatible I can't see why there is a problem for ARB. They just want to find a way to charge more I reckon:twisted:.

Just a question though, did the $200 include wiring your winch...if so, what they've quoted doesn't seem excessive to me.

Typical ARB ripoff with the foggies. I'd go shopping.

Hi all,
I looked at fitting a sahara bar to my 99 D2 but ARB said no way, even though I told them others had done it. Apparently for legal reasons they cannot fit the bar to earlier models because it was not designed and tested for them, and in this day and age I understand where they are coming from. But I would have thought any mechanic or someone mechanically minded could do it but they probably aren't interested because there would be little profit. Driving lights to fit the bar should be easy to get, don't pay big dollars, maybe even a wreckers or ebay?
Cheers matt:)

They are taking the party line here Matt. From everything i have read on here, you are fitting a D2 bar to the same D2 chassis as originally intended, and from a safety point of view, that is the only concern. The mod is in the plastic trim only.:)

Dullbird yes agree, Richmond ARB said that they have ftted them before, and know that it's just some triming that is required, I indicated as well that there are many who have had them fitted. Then then said that it's got to get sign off from the bosses because they are meant for a D2a/b? But they know they fit the D2. I can understand that they want to see the condition of the bar, as they don't want to fit something that is stuffed, however the whole D2, D2a thing is utter rubbish.

That's ok, I will just ensure that my business now and into the future does not involve ARB products, simple.........

$200 for fitting, no winch.

I wanted to get someone who new how to fit this bar to a D2, and knew the trimming etc that was required.

Has anyone in Melb had a sahara bar fitted to a D2? If so who did it for you?

Thanks

Matt the fog lights I meant are the ones that are inset into the ARB bar, not the Foggies that sit on top above the winch.
Trying to get these from a wreckers, is impossible, just wanting to understand whether there is an aftermarket option available as $500 for two lights that are the size of two small roof downlights, is rediculous.

Cheers

I would have thought the fog lights would be easy to get, I haven't been up close to the sahara bar for disco, but looking in the ARB catalogue it looks like any generic fog light. I suppose it all depends on the mountings. I have heard of people using household downlights as reversing lights in bumpers, at the end of the day they are 12v.

Thanks Guys for the replies.

LRA - is that in Lilydale? don't they normally do 4Wd water tanks? Would they fit Bull bars? sorry for the questions just want to know I am heading in the right direction.

The lights I would assume are simple, it's the mounting that is the challenge, I have no skillset whatsoever when it comes to that sort of thing. I am thinking I can get the lights from SuperCheap, brackets don't know.

Would love to see some photos of others Sahara bars with the lights and mounts, or even hear of anyone that has had to fit or replace them llike myself.

Cheers
JB.

I thought the D2 Sahara bar took the "factory" 03 --> foglights from the standard facelift vehicles.

the factory lamps retail around £55 each, so $110 each to you guys ?

The sahara bar i sold to disco Dan i brought second hand and it had a winch fitted already.

I took it ARB Richmond and dealt with Callum, he also sold me my snorkel (at another time), and they fitted the sahara bar for $100 and then wired up the winch for an extra $100.
There was never any talk over "speaking to the boss", mind you i had supplied the car to them with no grille fitted and then once i got the car back home i cut the grill to suit myself.

I had my new bar fitted by Andrew @ LRA in thomastown. THese guys ROCK!!! and are always more than happy to help. And also like other workshops/service centres aren't afraid to try something for the first time.

any questions just ask me

Hi JB,
I had my 01my D2 fitted with an ARB bar very early on, I think i was the first but not quite sure.
I had originally got ARB to fit it as they were also curious to see if it would fit...funnily enough it does!
With some slight mod's it is very easy.
I had to remove the bar on 2 occassions to fit 1.Winch & then 2. to rewire winch..
It is a simple fit, basically 2 bolts in the chassis horizontally & 1 vertically to stop bar rotation. Best thing to do as i think someone has said is to buy bigger diameter bolts, this helps alot.

WRT the fog lights, I actually bought brand new Range Rover(this was pre D3/Sport) fog lights, Funnily enough they are heaps cheaper new & the wiring you will have to make your own connections anyway. SO this was just a bolt in job & a few connections.

If u have any further questions just let me know

Cheers:D

Cheers Pete, great info.

I was starting to head down the path of the fog lights from an 03 onwards, now just need to undertsand brackets etc and how they fit into the bar.

By chance would you know the best place to get them?

Tried second hand, no luck, have spoken to a couple of LR parts places no luck either. Would'nt think they are that rare?

The Range Rover spot lights are harder to find! I tried to get a set last week & could not find a set in all the places i rang...we needed one for a 2nd hand Rangie in the yard. Could get plenty of D2a/D3/Spt version but none for a RR. You may have to go down the path of the D2a/D3/Spt version, I know Phil at Triumph rover spares in Adelaide had some but we needed a specific for the RR.

Try ringing around & see who offers the best price.

Hi Pete,
You mention the 1 vertical bolt, when I put the bar on I did not install this vertical bolt only the horizontal as there were only holes for horizontal?

Did you drill into the chasis before putting the crash cans on? We double checked it all and it has fitted up fine except for the vertcle bolts.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
JB.

The vertical bolt is an extra Bolt ARB fit, comes with the original fitting kit.
You will have to drill the hole, where the crush can mounts to the chassis

Hi All,
still trying to find some driving lights that can replace my factory bumper ones in the sahara bar.
Found a couple of D2 ones from wreckers, but you guessed it they want stupid money for them.

Does anyone know of aftermarket ones that would fit? Looking for a 3 inch round driving light with bracket that can take it in the bush, eg mud and water.

Thanks
JB

as i work for the company mentioned, wont say where though, it is just a legal issue with the enginering of the sahara bar thats the main reason why we dont fit it. if you take to a non arb head office controlled store they may be willing to help richmond and brighton are head office controlled, sonthern and northern arent.

also the virtical bolt is important in the fitting of the impact mainly to stop up and down movement is is possibile for the bar to move upwards and hit your lights if you knocked it while 4wding.

hope this helps.
