and we either leave the track as it is now (management wise that is) ...or....upgrade the track...or close the track :D

Having been involved in natural resource management and the development of management plans for a number of years the biggest issue is the complacency of the public or relevant clients rather than how long, the long lunches are of the public servants are who have to develop them.

You go out using various communications means through a public consultation process to determine whether a plan is needed - this will usually be prompted by some issues with the management of the area. Usually the response is zip and the management agency has to make decisions on its own on whether to go ahead.

Then when the plan has been drafted, again in consultation with clients, there is another public consultation process - usual response - zip.

Then when the plan is developed, Gazetted and implementation started, it is only then that all the clients start screaming - "we were not consulted", "it is all wrong".

Sorry, in many cases (but certainly not all) the public often gets what it deserves.

So if you have an interest in the development (or not) of a management plan for the CREB - have your say rather than sitting back and then complaining about the result - but if you have contributed and don't like the result then you have every right to dispute the management approach.

Well the media release on the Cairns Regional Council website dated April 15th sounded encouraging


"Council agreed that this is a key recreational link for residents and tourists and that it should maintain it. ... Consultation with trail users, conservationists and indigenous people took place to reach this outcome and it has proven successful."
