I'm currently battling my demons, defender or disco, which do I buy! However this is not a subject to post, as it will only illicit the wrath usually saved for Toyota's (Own one, love it). As I'm as aerodynamically challenged as a defender, horizontally gifted and some bugger got lazy with the defender hand brake I'm leaning towards a disco. With only about 8000 to spend I think the cost of spares is going to be important. How do Land Rovers compare to other Marques for spares, both the consumables and the big ticket items.

With only 8k to spend then you will need to get a Disco. Defenders of any worth are usually $12k+
The pricing of LR spares is very reasonable compared to other brands but it pays to shop and of course depends on the particular item.

Depends if you go straight to the Dealer, or if you shop around for OEM parts from 3rd parties, or if you go for the cheapest parts which might also be cheaply produced.
If you only have $8K, you will get a lot better deal from a Disco than a Defender.
Not quite sure what youare inferring when you say you are aerodynamically challenged, but if you are a big bloke, then you might find the Defender cabin a bit squishy anyway. Disco has more elbow and leg room.
