Towed my trailer, and i blew the fuse for the guages and indicators... replaced the fuse. gauges came good but the indicators stopped working.
Had a look at the trailer wiring and found that it had worn thought and was touching shorting out.
I am guessing that i have blown the bum out of the flasher can. Now im trying to find it.. working my way thought the manuals and trying to trace the wires. Any hints were the flasher can is?
By the way its a 99 TD5 defender which means it could be anywhere being the change over model!!!
Thanks Mike

G'day Mike,
I'm not sure if this will be of help to you or not as i don't know what a TD5 dash area really looks like, but the flasher unit in my County is mounted on the inside of a large metal bracket that is behind a plastic panel situated below the dash and in front of the gear stick.

Had a look there.. didn't find anything that looked like a flasher.. could be anywere.. i have been looking in the defender manual, and it shows it behinded the dash.. had a look and there is only one relay and a box. looks nothing like the pic. I the maual i have is for the later 2002 defenders.
this one has me stumped. at the moment im going thought the net looking for wiring diagrams.. if i have no luck tonight ill just follow the wires from the stalk till i find the flasher.

Hi Mike,
dont know the 99 at all but in the TDi its on the fuse panel (behind the gear lever behind the plastic fuse cover)on the right hand side of the that, there are 2 square what look like relay units, one is the hazards and the other by memory is yellow? and is the flasher unit.
hopes this helps.

Thanks guys.. had another play today.. FOUND THE FAULT :):):)
I turned the idicators on and started to wiggle hit swear at any bit that had LUCAS on it i could find, Gave the red one behind the fuse box a tap, right where you said.. came good.. started to put it all together and found that they stopped working once i wiggled the hazard light switch..
So i belive either the flasher or the switch is the problem.. Pulled the switch apart to give it a clean, doesn't look real flash in there. The hazard light switch isolates the normal indicators. This bit was bent.
So i went off the the landrover shop to get some parts.
the switch was VERY EXPENSIVE as in 180+:o:o:o so i thought ill do a bit more research. Just found the switch on ebay for 15quid.. ill wait a week. and save 100!! thats $100 closer to that set of bilsteins i've wanted for ages!!
Flasher wasnt' that expencvie its on its way....
I would hate to think how much this would have cost me if i had of just gorn to a dealer or mechanic and said "fix it" im guessing $400+
Thanks guys

yep you were right. i thought it was a relay. why can't they write FLASHER on it in big frendly letters.. Your suppose to be able to fix this truck while in the middle of the desert being stalked hostile man or beast
