Hi all,
bought myself a new inkjet a couple of months back and filled out the sent paperwork for a $20 cash back. I'm now told, after about 8 weeks , that they didn't receive the proper barcode sticker with the paperwork. There was only one on the box . If I have thrown the box my option is to get a stat-dec stating the code off the printer. Who keeps boxes for more than a couple of weeks. Has anyone else made a cash back claim with Brother and been successful or unsuccessful? I know it's only $20 but it's the principle and it will be interesting to find out if I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Hi Pete,

$30 cashback on a Brother MFC-260C. Sent the barcode from the box with copy of receipt, logged the claim online, cheque arrived about 2 months later. No probs, great printer, fax, scanner.

Hardware was worth twice the money, rebate or no rebate, IMO.

Thanks mate. Yes, still great value even if I don't get my $20 back. Had a bout of paranoia  after reading about some cash back scams and the hurdles they use to avoid paying.

I purchased a 4040CN colour laser printer 3 or 4 months back
for a great price of about $400 (Office works pricematch)
filled in the forms and sent barcode etc
It took a while but a cheque for $100 rolled in

what a great printer very fast and good print quality
built like a tank, high build quality ...perhaps a bit heavy and big but fine for me

Interesting have been doing the sums and it is (just) cheaper to buy another printer to get the included standard capacity toner cartridges, than buy a set of standard capacity ones and you get a free printer as well and drum !

I don't know if I will ever buy something witha "cash back" again.
I bought a HP laptop last JULY 2008.
90 days was given as the max time.
Started calling in November.

Excuses about company organising cashback changing.

Called December, and given a reference number and that it would be paid "In January"
Followed up end January. Oops You were in the payment run but finance didn't pay.
Followed up February,ditto

Finally got the $150 last week, 10 MONTHS after purchase.

Why can't we sign the cash back over to the retailer and have the money off immediately?
Don't get me wrong. I am happy with the laptop and the unbelievable nett price of $499, But what a hassle.

I read an enlightening article in the paper a few months ago about these cashback schemes. It implied that the money often went only to the squeaky wheels and that the manufacturers were expecting many buyers wouldn't even bother to submit the forms once they got the product home and started playing with it.

I bought a colour laser printer for my dad a while back and went through the same hassles.

Eventually the money came back, but it took a lot of calls, faxes, etc. In the end the time spent claiming to refund ratio worked out about even.

This happens with a lot of these promotions. I have had 3 like this (1 cash back, 2 products by redemption)in the last 2 years with the latest being a Canon camera bag by redemption. They reckon they never received the redemption coupon. Crap. They asked me to send the original receipt which I said not likely as the barcode and a copy of the receipt were sent.
Easy solution as much as I like Canon cameras will not be buying another of their products or recommending them and all over a crappy camera bag. I am not going to waste my time trying to chase it up, but consumer protection have indicated these types of promotion is one of the most complained about.
