View Full Version : Can i borrow someones car trailer?

series3
13th May 2009, 12:26 PM
After some time without a landy, im on the verge of picking up my next one. (IIa SWB :):)).

If someone is willing to donate a car trailer for a couple of days for a 1400 kay round trip to pick her up, i would willingly pay in beer/other booze of choice.

Only catch is, it's late notice and was hoping to head off tonight sometime (from Maitland NSW heading to Albury).

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just hire one.;) Borrowing car trailers is not worth the drama as they may not be in good order:( Trust me.

It is a reasonable question, nobody has come forward with one so we gave him a reasonable answer with alternatives. As you say, in the spirit of the forum.

Personally you really have to know someone well before you lend them a car trailer or any braked trailer for that matter.

My brother has a Tuza horse float, Duratorque axles, electric brakes etc etc. He was taking two horses to an event in Sydney several hundred Klm away, but the trailer wasn't towing correctly and even blew a tyre. Changed the tyre and took the trailer to old man Tuza at Penrith to sort out the problem. Jacked up the trailer and one of the Duratorques was stuffed and the second one damaged.

A "friend" had borrowed the trailer with two horses on board had run into a median strip at speed. Didn't think to tell my brother who had to foot the bill for the repair.

No you can't borrow my car trailer, not until I have known you for a long time and have seen the way you drive. Hilton can borrow it anytime as he meets the citeria above

No offence to anyone.

fare enough !!...each to there own...but Ive know my bro all his life and have friends that have been just that for many years and l trust them implicitly ...but even then things happen and that just life !! ..if your bro had a friend that didn't tell him he had an accident running into a median strip then in my book he isn't a freind...;)...FGS..i had a gentleman on this forum kindly offer to bid for an item in an auction for me as l wasn't registered to bid and couldn't afford to be register for a one off bid he trusted me simply because he saw l was a regular that had been around the forum traps for a good while!!.......just goes to show, each to there own and it all depends on your attitude to how you see things ...

lm surprised at your comments as l see you as one that is always willing to help out within the forum family ....

If I have time available I am more than happy to help someone out towing vehicles from place to place. I am just not so keep handing over something that has cost me a number of thousand dollars for the purchase, modifications and with ongoing maintenance. I may suggest that it would be like handing over your Land Rover to someone for them to take for hundreds if not thousands of Klm.

Diana

P.S. If you don't already know, another AULRO member actually has my SIII FFR to use while their own Land Rover gets back on the road.

P.P.S. My Range Rover was also loaned to someone to drive to Corowa and back to Sydney. As was my car trailer loaned to someone else to take their Land Rover to Corowa.

P.P.P.S. That same Range Rover was previously loaned to another person to jump start their poorly maintained car with and a worn out battery. But they didn't clip down it's bonnet correctly and when I drove the car down the coast several hours later, the bonnet came up, I lost the windscreen, bonnet and the peak of my roof with damage. Yes my fault because I didn't check the bonnet when the car was returned.

Once I agreed to tow a hired car trailer back to the owner, for a friend [the elderly person who gave me the copy right on the "Trail of the Serpent" book I mentioned in another post]. Due to a very bad weld the axle broke and the wheel went flying. It was a duel axle trailer, so I returned the with three wheels on the road.

None taken, I just thought I would idly throw it out there to see, some people do mind, some people don't. Others would find the offer of booze payments attractive.

You don't really know me from a bar of soap, so its completely understandable.

In fact what people saw me drink at Corowa was what I have consumed over the last 2 years. Does anyone want the remaining Tooheys Dry that was left over from Corowa? It is in my fridge at home.

Experience.... Yes...... Ask Disco owner. We were in his disco with a RRC on the trailer. It almost claimed the lot of us:eek:.

The trailer has been pranged by some one else a wile back and has a small twist I found after I dropped it back.:(

Borrowing things like car trailers is plain scary as you may be blamed for damages that were already there etc.

I just hire now. Think I need my own really. Just another Rego to pay:(

Kempsey trailers have a good one for $4000 - you pay $1500 I think as a down payment and then a weekly amount over 18 months with no interest. No tricky finance arrangements - they just let you pay it off in little bits.

It was so good I almost bought one myself...

I should be looking at a plant trailer that will do both. Will be more expensive to rego with higher GCM:(
