I'm a first time user of my new nanocom. Been using it with the aid of a netbook & starting to find my way around it a bit. Only had a couple of logged engine fault that reset ok. Now it has the 2 s&m green lights flashing that wont reset. Rover book says its the auto, see a dealer. What have I done?

Check the voltage of your starting battery...

Check to see if the gears are showing correctly on the dash, check its in Park firmly, turn off, lock it. wait a min or two and restart.
Voltage can do it as Angus said,
The gearbox computer can do it,
The inhibitor switch (gear selection sensor) can do it also.
The other thing that can trigger it is when the torque sensors get out of whack when you've given it a boot to pass etc and then back off.
Or sometimes they just do it to make life interesting.

Tried your advice but they keep flashing at me. The selected gear indicates ok for P,R,N,D but not for 1,2,or 3. Red leds on selector lever flash in time with green M & S light on the dash. Does the nanocom look into the gearbox computer?

AFAIK Nanocom doesn't talk to the Auto's ECU.
Move your Hi/Low (CDL??) lever and make sure it is firmly engaged in Hi and no CDL (if fitted)
Bit out there and I don't know if Nanocom can do this, but check the Td5 ECU doesn't think its now talking to a manual gearbox.
THe M+S (limp home mode) should self clear on the gearbox unless its being re-triggered by something. You may have to turn the car off and wait 20 minutes though.

I left it off & locked over night yet they still flash. Went for a drive & was supprised to learn what you ment by limp mode. Only one gear in low range & two I think in high, (3500rpm @ 100k's). Any hints on how to check if the engine thinks I installed a manual box. Thats what it will get if its not careful.

I have Rovacom and on the Disco you could change some settings for the Td5 ECU, pretty sure transmission was one of them. I've never played with a Nanocom, hopefully someone else might jump in here and help.

Hi all- my first post on your 1st class forum.
Been struggling for some weeks to sort out similar problems.
In my case, I had flashing M&S lights, but no display of gear selection on the instrument panel- and no red LEDs on the gear selector base.
Dealer concluded that WXYZ/selector switch was faulty.
However, I could see the switch working on Nanocom.
Turned out that in trying to trace a fault with the A/C I had sent a spike down the line- and the system had gone back to some form of default.
Nanocom showed up my TD5 auto as a petrol/manual. Reset it all using Nanocom and all is well [so far]
Back to the point- and more of a question. Assuming that the system agrees that the drive is auto- would it be safe to say that if the gear selection display is working, then the WXYZ switch must be OK.

Ghand2, this has happened to me on occasions when using the Nanocom. Simply, I found the engine ECM loses data connection to the Auto ECU. I reset it by disconnecting the Nanocom, lock and unlock the vehicle twice. Each time you lock, ensure the alarm LED in the dash blinks slowly before you unlock.
Unfortunately, there is a chance you have done some damage either by changing something in the configuration or creating some type of surge. You may have to take it to a Professional to further diagnose..
Good luck

Hi Ghand2,
I have previously done exactly the same thing with my nanocom (also had the headlights flashing and the audiable alarm 'bong'ing'.. all very worrying indeed.
What I found were some parameters in the Valeo BCU - settings tab were changed. (all I wanted to do was enable speed lock however other settings had somehow changed and were written to memory when I clicked 'write setting'. each time I subsequently 'read' the Valeo BCU settings I was getting different values for some of the parameters...)
First thing, if you haven't already done so, upgrade your nanocom to v2.04, it apparantly fix's some communication errors (and hopefully the changing parameters I was receiving).
Next, go back into the Valeo BCU 'settings' tab (if using the PC interface) and read the settings. Check closely your transmission type, this will appear in TWO different fields i.e. "TRANSMISSION SUSPENSION" - 'Transmission' should be "AUTO" and
"INSTRUMENT PACK" - 'Transmission' should be "AUTOMATIC"
as stated, mine had changed to manual; changing back to automatic and writing the setting fixed my MS problem. Just check every other setting first before writing else you will end up with all sorts of other problems if like me, your nanocom changed some of these values prior to pressing the write button .
I hope this helps, PM me with your email if you like and I will send you a copy of my settings which you can check against.

I'd like to say how valuable this forum is & thanks to its creators & those who take the time to reply. With out this it was going to be a very expensive trucking execise to a distant dealer for a very simple problem.
When searching this problem on here I was advised these lights should be used as a battery indicator. Voltage tested @ 12.4 & rose to 14.4 quickly when started. The starter motor seemed to crank with plenty of energy. Due to this I tried all other solutions suggested in this thread without finding anything wrong. At wits end, went to town & brought the biggest 4wd battery I could fit in. Turned key & they still flashed. Started & they reset within seconds. What a relief! Thank you all.
I would say plugging the nanocom in with the ignition on was most likley the cause to trip it into limp mode. The battery needs to be near new condition to get a reset back out of it. Have downloaded firmwear 2.04 which is supposed to cure this, Geoff
