Morning all
A friend of mine has gone down to Melbourne to move her grandmother up here. Her deceased grandfather was a landy nut and she was telling me about his old land rover. Now she is there she is trying to organize to sell the old mans landy but we are trying to piece together what it is exactly. It is a series 2 88 inch with original four cylinder petrol motor. Dual fuel taks which has me thinking it might be military. Where is the chassis number located on these?

right chassis number is 153102052 which Calvin lists as a 1961 model. I have got her to send up a picture of the rear showing cross member. Is this civvy?? It has a plate on the bulkhead where a CR would have its data plate however it has been painted over. What else should we be looking for?

Just ran the numbers through the series 2 listings on REMLR.
She appears to be a civvy (and not a CR, or mil variant). But a nice one at that.
You gonna keep it?

Thanks guys, i will pass the info along and see what she wants to do with it. Looks like a late series 2 but relatively complete with PTO winch.

G'day All, All the S2 C/recon vehicles chassis numbers start with 143, this vehicles ch/number 153 (civvie) as stated by darkside the S2C/r is basically a civvie L/r like Inc has stated, they had 1 fuel tank (rhs) a dual oil/temp guage in the dash (central above ign) no ign key just a knob, the convoy light switch was to the right of the speedo, all it did was put power to a convoy light up under the rear of the vehicle, tac/unit sign holders, brush bar, fire ext, mesh vent screens, canvas tilt, nomenclature plate, into service ID tag under bonnet (lhs b/head) and viola a S2 C/R Land Rover cheers Dennis:angel:

There have been a few mods to that vehicle.
The firewall vents have SIIa regulators and the air cleaner seems to be on the wrong side. Perhaps it had a dual battery at some time.
The PTO winch looks like a 1970s Thomas winch. Not original but a quality make.
