Hello everyone, new member to the site from across the pond. I am anticipating spending some quality time in Costa Rica for a while, which most importantly allows me to purchase my first diesel Defender since our US bureaucrats have decided we can't have them.:( I have always wanted one and they are rarer than hen's teeth here since the last 500 was shipped in 1995, petrol 90 version.
Anyway I found a few 110's and a 130. So far a 2005 110 Td5 with 47k kms may be the best value. Here is a link - 2005 DEFENDER TD5 (http://costarica.en.craigslist.org/cto/1153878820.html)
I have emailed the owner, he is an expat from New York that is moving back to the states soon and needs to sell. He is the second owner. All vehicles in Costa Rica are ridiculously expensive due to the high import taxes, so the price is high and unfortunately that is the way it is. I have asked for a list of maintenance and repair items he has done, have not received a reply yet.
What kind of issues would I be facing, other than the fact it's a LR, with a 4 year old, 47K km Defender? Does the 2005 Td5 have the same oil in the loom issues as the earlier versions? If the timing chain has not been replaced is that something I should factor into the equation?
