I popped around to my mothers house in the Disco and parked legally in front of her house. !/2 later there was a thud and then a knock on the door......
Seems the Neighbor backed out of his driveway straight into my drivers side rear Quarter panel. At least he did the right thing and told me. I pity him as the street is very narrow and his driveway is directly opposite. He obviously didn't swing far enough to avoid me. Damage not too bad, bottom of the rear quarter panel dented and scraped and the rear bumper cap mangled.:(:(
now the hassles of getting quotes:(

We met the new neighbours across the road in a similar way.
The wife backed into his new dunny dore:(,parked on the street opposite our driveway.

I know what you mean ,running around getting quotes,a pain in the backside.I then also had the problem of the panel beater not fixing it properly:mad:

The D2 i now have has reversing sensors, helps those that sometimes dont look, but you cant totally rely on them.

Been there done that twice.:( our drive way is steep and the road is just wide enough for 2 cars to pass, the first incident was in the Defender and I backed into a Austin 1800. Turns out that the car belonged to my cousin who was visiting the house across from us, I offered to pay for the damage but he refused.:D

The second time was also in the Defender, the bloke next door parked his car across the road while he was mowing the lawn. As I was backing out the kids started at each other and I lost concentration and hit his Magna, and did quite a bit of damage.:(

But since I have had the Disco's I havent had an accident, not because my driving has improved or that the rear vision is better better in the Disco's it just no one is game to park behind me any more;)

I hope the repairs etc don't bring you too much pain! I did this with my County just before I left NZ:

I was good enough to leave a note, some bloke phoned a few hours after the incident and said his wife was really upset about his car, but he was stoked that I'd left a note! The insurance company wrote the car off, and I rubbed the blue paint off my 110's rear cross member with a rag.

A got an email from a mate the other day.. it was a pic of a note someone left after an accident.

It read, ...."My name is Jack, sorry I backed into your car, I am writing this note because some one saw me hit your car, so I'm pretending to leave my details on this note, but i really aren't. Sorry have a nice day Jack"

the guy that hit me was very embarrassed and sorry, It was no use me getting upset, after all it was an accident. I shook his hand and said it was nice to finally meet him..... Don't want to cause any bad vibes after all he and my mum are neighbors and he was honest enough to left us know.

I had the trailer on behind the van a few years back, parked in the shopping centre.Came back & drove out, must have been dreaming, forgot the trailer was on,clipped a car, made a horrible noise, lots of people looked over.
I stopped & put a note under the wiper of the car, with my CORRECT name & phone number.
Never heard from them.
It was nearly dark,i recon they probably got in their car, didnt see the damage, saw the note under the windscreen wiper, thought it was a flyer for something & let it blow away.
My lucky...or unlucky day:eek:

Gotta say, I'd hardly notice that sort of damage on my disco:whistling:
Whe I had my first series 2 though, I backed out of a freinds place when a fellow backed out behind me and tore the whole side of his style side hi-lux ute up on my tray:D:D:D:D
He was SO apologetic as it was clearly his fault.
The Landy was absolutely undamaged, thanks to the steel frame around the hardwood tray. His Hi-Lux required the whole side of his tray being replaced.
I was happy to let this go as my vehicle was actually "between" regos, and I was "between" licences.:angel:

Not debating anything.. Just pointing something out...

But in SA, parking directly opposite someones driveway in a residential street is illegal.

OK , I will probably get into trouble for this but here goes.
My wife parked our E36 M3 at Erina Fair.

A young rigger in a Telstra type Nissan Patrol tray with the big body, backed into it and neatly put his towbar through one of the grilles, without really damaging anything else.

He left a note with contact details, and I contacted him . He offered to pay for any damage.
So I went to BMW and bought a new grille which cost $60. has to be the cheapest part on a BMW.
I arranged to meet him at his flat and he gave me $100 to cover my trouble in going to the dealer as well as the part.

The young guy was of very suntanned appearance , so I must admit initially I was sceptical of my chances.

So In the end I think that this was the most amazing, satisfying, and gratifying bad luck I have ever had.

Not debating anything.. Just pointing something out...

But in SA, parking directly opposite someones driveway in a residential street is illegal.
I was legally parked... the street is in a newish estate, The driveway in question opposite, was the result of a sub divided block, that put it in direct line of where my car was parked., the guy just wasn't looking and swinging hard enough to avoid me. Now mum tells me he has Bipola, poor bugger, and disappears for weeks on end.
If I parked further forward then I would be to close to an intersection and get banged my the young hoons that drag down the streets.
If I park further back then, I would be blocking my mothers driveway, even further back block access to other drive ways.
A lot in the neighborhood just park their cars on the nature strip... again that is illegal and the council has been know to fine yo for that. So the only other thing is park some where else and catch a taxi to visit my mum.:(
