Just a quick one
today i got a couple of shots from the train station so I could enter them in the comp...
I actually took the photo's in B&W straight from the camera..when I put them in to lightroom it bloody converts them to colour which is really annoying does anyone know if there is a box to check to stop it doing this automatically

I don't use Lightroom, but if the image is RAW I would check anything to do with White Balance or colour space in the preferences. Shooting RAW in B&W isn't really necessary as its just a change of settings.

So are you saying if i shot the in black and white in a JPEG the likely hood is that lightroom wouldn't of changed it?

Correct!
Think of a JPEG as a developed negative, there's only so much you can do and to change from black and white to colour means it would have to interpolate the grey scale to a colour space based on some reference point(s) in the photo.
A RAW image is like an undeveloped negative and as it is the sensor data that is being saved then you can simply change the image from colour to black and white and back again.

i know you can change RAW backwards and forwards....its just sometimes I like to be able to go in and not have to do anything so if I want to download it straight from camera in B&W i expect it to stay that way not have to convert it back

It must be a setting in Lightroom as Photoshop and Aperture don't do this for me unless I choose to.

An original in color gives more tones and possibilities for a good B&W and sepia conversion.
