Stolen from the Braeside area (Melbourne) on 26/05/09

Blue 97 Discovery tdi Rego OQQ646

This vehicle was fitted with many accessories including diff locks, bull bar, winch, driving lights, larger tyres etc, etc

Any help in regard to recovering this vehicle would be greatly appreciated

Not good Dean

I'll let my mate know, the one that works down your way ;)
He spends a bit of time on the road and should also be able to keep a lookout for.

Hope you find it soon with just a little less fuel in it.

Sorry to hear about that Dean.
I know you've had it for quite a few years so must be a real blow.

Hopefully it comes back soon, but in case it doesn't, do you want to post up more details of exactly what was on it? Might help track down the mongrels if they decide to start flogging the parts.

exactly what i thought when i saw the post.
Cant understand why anyone would steal a disco for, i mean there are easier to break into vehicles with more valuable parts unless of course they used it for ram raiding :o.

Hi

B******s, I just thought 'how would I feel if it was me?' And it wasn't a good feeling.

On a practical note, 'Toorak Tractor', the Landy Wreckers, are in Tarnard Drive Braeside. Might be worth checking to see if someone trys to sell it to them.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I just crawl out from under my rock every now and again :)

So what's the news, i gather it hasn't turned up anywhere?

It does make me wonder if it has been used for parts?...but then again i would have expected the rest to have turned up by now...

What's the situation with insurance etc? Will you be able to replace it?

Hi Matt,
I assume it,ll be stripped for parts, no sign of anything yet:(.
Was insured with Affinity risk & in the process of evaluation at the moment.
Unfortunately insured for market value only but all the accessories were also listed. Not all that keen to get an immediate payout , but would like to know the figure so we know where we stand, & can look to the future.
What next? I dont know, but Im pretty sure it,ll be a Landy:angel::D.
Cheers Dean.

Hmmmmmmm............ cant say I havent looked;).
Took a 200tdi hard top for a bit of a spin a couple of weeks ago. 93 model, 148000k,s ............. interesting.
Loved all the extra space , I dont need all the seats anymore & it could be fitted out anyway I want, ran really well but........... the noise & ride comfort are just a little different to the Disco:o.
Its only the second defender that Ive driven, Im sure they,re an equired taste but could I live with shouting at the passenger cotinually & wearing a kidney belt? It sounded to me like I was driving a vehicle with no firewall.
I like the idea but pushing 35 , one has to take a long hard look at themself:D.
Cheers Dean.

Hi Dean. Just before I sold my Disco ( it was similar age and model to yours as you know, and insured for market value ) I got an insurance valuation on it from my company ( Allianz). They quoted market value at $10,500. I didn't have any of my accessories listed.

Go drive a D2 you'll find the refinement level a lot higher than a D1. ( for your old bones )
Trouble is finding a good one.

Hi Dean

Do you have the VIN and engine number still for that Disco ?

Possibly by displaying that info on here, that chassis may show up in a rebirthed car somewhere, as the numbers do appear in several places around the body.

The fine should come with a photo?
If not, I'm sure you could get one issued,
and soon see if they're the right plates and if it's your old disco.

yeah as above, you should be able to get access to the photo! also the police should have info from the stolen vehicle report when it went missing years ago!

I'd phone the local police station, let them know the story, i reckon they'd be pretty keen to chase it up!

Thanx to all for your thoughts & comments.
The police found the vehicle at a hotel in Nunawading.
The driver denied stealing it although he has been charged with being in possesion of stolen property?
We were fully paid out by the insurance company, wonder what happens to it now?
I assume it goes to auction somehere?
Cheers Dean.
