The SP takes AGES to run doesn't it?
Get yourself a copy of Windows 7 and have a play. It is significantly faster and snappier than Vista. Stable as too, even though it is not the final build.

Are you running 64-Bit? If not, can Windows 32-Bit see all that RAM?

Had my macbookpro for 18 months.

Have the advantage of being able to run windows for the programs you can't get for apple OS. :D

You guys can just recover in the lounge while i wait for W7 to roll out, by all accounts much less resource hungry and easier on hardware than pista.

Maybe, but every report i have read about it has been favourable especially where older ( not current) hardware is concerned.

i remember most reports being favourable for vista before it was launched also..
Idon't know whether to do the upgrade knowing my luck it will crash.....

Well I've had to use the laptop a few times now since putting Vista SP2 on. It's no faster starting up or shutting down, still takes for ever:mad: Windows things seem to launch a little quicker, but overall I'd say what ever its resolved isn't that noticeable to the user. Certainly doesn't make me want to move off the Mac OSX:)

SP2 wont make your pc any faster all it will do is update sofate and add any security patches. Best thing you can do to speed up your pc is uninstall software you dont use and run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, (its free).
Also check your startup programs using msconfig, keep them to a minimum. ;)

Done all that and rechecked it a few times. Doesn't seem to matter with Vista... its just slow!

what is your Windows Experience Index ?
Before the upgrade it was 4.5
After the upgrade it is 4.4 - I'd checked this and for some reason it told me I had to re run the index as "new hardware has been added" after the SP2 update. I haven't added anything so don't know what it wanted but re-ran the index anyway.
Personally I think its telling me "buy a MacBook":p

Just loaded win7 RC. Seems nice. networking is easy on it, but have to make sure software u have been running previously has updated versions for Vista at least.

If you haven't done so, do yourself a favour and watch these Apple - Get a Mac - Watch the TV Ads (http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/)
The latest one entitled Customer Care just about sums up any support line for a large business.
Yes, I know it is Windows bashing, but if you watch them for the entertainment value alone they are still very funny:D

Need reinforcements mate :)
Apple revealed today that their new OS due in September will occupy half the footprint of their current OS. So upgrade and have an extra 6gb on your hard disk to play with :)
Also if you buy a new mac between now and when the new OS arrives in Sept you'll only pay $14.95 to upgrade. If you have any other mac with the current Leopard on the upgrade will be less than $50. :)

Vista.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
It is a pig. Granted it has some nice features, but overall it is a pig, with way too many things being incompatable. Stuff that would work fine on anything form Win 98 to XP just will not work on Vista. Biggest pain is my Sony Camcorder will not work via firewire to Vista or XP, so now the Sony DV Camcorder is not worth a pos. MS blame Sony, Sony blame MS but there is no resolution for it and apparentlly this has been known about for some time. Many other programs that also have no or limited us with Vista, I do not mind upgrading to better OS, but having to upgrade everything is just plain ransom. Another example is MS Office premium does not work properly and all MS say is you should upgrade. Well sorry but at another cost of $1k plus I think not.
Not to mention how resource hungry it is.
I did survive SP2 though.

your right it is, its awfull stick to XP or install the pre-release windows7
I think Vista like WindowsME will be one swept under the carpet and forgotten about.

Quad 2.8.
No Vista gripes here, but I have canned IE8. Keeps jumping to 100% cpu usage and seizing my system.
Always liked the Fox better anyhow.

Will probablly fork over the $ for Windows 7.:(
Yep Gates has got us again, released a POS version that does not work properly and is incompatable with a large % of software and hardware, so we have to upgrade yet again. God I miss the simplicity of Windows 98 and wish I had a full working copy of XP.
