Finally, I bit the bullet and have replaced the ABS pump. No more amigos!
Replaced it with a recoed unit at a third or so of the cost of a new one from Land Rover.
Had previously tried the other fixes associated with this fault, which is world wide from what I have been able to find.

Just remember to "exercise" the HDC every once in a while so that the "shuttle valve" inside the ABS modulator keeps working.
It seems that a lot of ABS modulators die because they don't get exercised often enough.
Yeah, I know it's a bit soft and not "manly" use the HDC when descending a steep slope in low range, but a good minute or so of working the ABS modulator will keep it going for a long long time. :)

Every now and then I go through a "use or lose " routine on gravel and slightly rough terrain -- use all ranges and CDL on TC, down a slope with HDC, and a fast run on the gravel and slam the brakes on to activate ABS, so far so good.

Jeez, I went down some steep hills last week in an L322 with HDC and I was amazed at just how good it was.

I can echo the comments about the benefits of 'exercising' the ABS modulator... I'd been struggling with intermittent 3 amigos for the past few months and was resigned to having to cough up for a replacement.
I'm pleased to say that since giving the car a good work out up and down some steep sand dunes the other weekend though that the 3 amigos seem to have disappeared - long may they be absent!

The traction control on our Disco cuts in almost every day on our gravel driveway - never had the 3 Amigos - touch wood.
