I am looking to buy a D3 TDV6 SE and was wondering what brand of tyres come with it?

I am looking for sturdy AT tyres capable of traversing rocky terrain (sharp rocks inc) and if the standard tyres won't cope (or are not AT's) do you think LR will swap them for - say - General Grabbers AT2's?

Any ideas of other brands would also be welcome.

Many thanks

Standard tyres won't cope. Have the dealer swap the 17x7 rims from an S model on and fit light-truck all-terrain tyres instead. Insist on it as a dealbreaker.

G'day Cooch,

I think Goodyear wranglers are still standard equip, however they have a bad rep and I wouldnt buy them. In the absence of anything better in the market at the time, I got Coopers HT+ which were good for the car but couldnt cope with a three ton van and off the blacktop in NT, WA etc

I am in the process of getting 17x8 steel rims for $120 each and then Light Truck construction tyres, for approx $330 each. Do your sums and see what you come up with.

If you are in NSW then you can increase the tyre diameter by up to 50mm I think unlike Qld's 15mm max increase, this means as the standard tyre is 255/60/18 at 763mm diameter you can go to 813mm but this WILL NOT fit in the spare tyre space under the rear of the car, I understand the guys who have Coopers LTZ ($397) 285/60/18 at 799mm diameter can fit in the spare space if they deflate the tyre, which means you have to have a compressor handy.

BFG, Yokohama, Coopers, Mickey Thompson, and Bridgestone etc all make suitable 17" tyres, take your pick.

Have a look at this poll which lists the currently available AT R18 tyres.

Thank you all for the above excellent advice. I was wondering what brands of steel rims 17X7 or 17X8, I should be looking at?

Both King and dynamic do a 17x8 steel rim, though you may have to be persistent in getting to talk to the right people to order them. I have had each company both deny then confirm they make them for the D3 etc. Currently I have one 17x8 on order as a trial to see if it fits the D3, will have results next week.

Still exploring QLD legal tyre options.

Edit
17x8 give you a bigger choice of tyres
