Anyone else with an iPhone think they are crud? They are awkward to use, particularly texting, it needs charging twice a day and continually drop calls and lacks range. Land Rovers are more reliable.:mad::mad:

Wish someone would steal mine, they'd bring it back though. Useless thing, it's not even heavy enough to make an anchor for a model boat.

I agree, i love my iphone so much i have 2!
the latest firmware available (not v3 yet) seems to alot more stable then earlier versions, i got my first one last year and jail broke it straight away, the apps available now are unbeleivable, theres not much i cant use it for. My 2nd one was given to me by my work when i started my new job, its not jail broken but still awesome, when it comes to connecting to an exchange server for mail they are the bloody fantastic.

I'd be happy to be able to make reliable calls, text without appearing to be a illiterate bogan and not to have to charge it two or three times a day. These thing are damnright dangerous, texting and driving. Every other phone I can text without looking (at the phone) ;).

hahah i think they are easy to use, you must be going pretty hard on it to need to charge it serveral times a day, my work iphone gets a good work out every day and i dont need to charge it everyday unless im using it for many hours at a time, my personal one gets charged every 3rd day most of the time and i use it daily at the gym for music and web.
what provider are you on? mine are on different networks, one telstra and one optus, the telstra one is way faster on the data side of things, the optus is crap in comparison.

I met the Optus executive who organised the entire iPhone contract for them in Aus, he assured me again and again that their 3G network is a good as Telstra's - I was certain he was bending the truth a little....
Somebody on this forum said that the resale value of their Defender was meaningless because they were going to be buried in it Viking style.
I'd like to go out with my iPhone in my pocket (ever read any Poe ;))

you need to turn off some of the extra features to get 3 or 4 day battery life..
turn off location services and the push functions.
turning off 3g when you dont want it helps heaps as well..
as for the texting.... can help you, the keyboard setup is great for well worn old fingers like mine...

Any touch screen phone with a QWERTY keyboard will be harder to text with than a normal keypad.
OS 3 is 'apparently' coming with horizontal format for texting meaning a larger keyboard should be available for those with 'fat fingers'
..The biggest killer of phone life is poor network coverage. A 3G phone will roam constantly looking for signal.
Even my Nokia and LGs died in under 24 hours on a trip north, where signals were rare.. The phones spent all their energy trying to 'ping' a tower:o
My iPhone runs 3G, Push etc and gets 36-48 hours out of a battery most times...
But then, is it so hard to plug in each night

I'd have to question the need to text whilst driving! Surely that is dangerous and illegal.
Ron (who can't text without reading glasses to see where the letters are on the keyboard. It can take me five minutes to do a full 160 character text. Ergo, I rarely text.)

Let me guess.. you are on Optus? :)
The continually drops calls and lacks range problems are truly optional, and the charging problem as well to some extent (constantly desperately searching for a decent phone network kills the battery).

It's not a business phone..
It would be nice to swap in a fully charged battery mid afternoon, but of course no ipods have removable batteries
And emails are expensive. Why can't it be set up just to download headers?
And the fixation with syncing with Itunes only I don't understand. Why can't I download podcasts when travelling? Why did Apple kill that app?

No, Voda. I changed my wireless BB over when I updated the phone which explains my sudden departure from this forum. I do have iffy Voda coverage here but my previous phones rarely dropped out, merely broke-up from time to time. What is push and location services? I have them both disabled. What idiotic company would sell a complex devise such as this, sans instructions.
Ron, if you can text/drive without looking at the phone I see no danger, it is safer than talking as it can be done out of sight, saving $300. ;)
I can't text/drive with an iPhone as my diget covers six or eight characters at a time.:oops2:

I suspect it would take concentration to text and therefore be undesirable.

1. If your on the road, a $10.00 charger will keep it fresh.
Making lots of calls even on a Nokia etc will kill the battery quick.
I know no-one who has a spare battery - Even after 20 years of owning mobiles I've never had a 2nd battery... Just a car kit/charger
2. You can set it to do headers Only
3. I download PodCasts when out on the road often. The function is still there...
Side Note...
When Synced with iTunes the phone checks for updates.
Usually this then displays "Current, will check next **/**/****" being the next day..
Well, with the impending release of OS 3 for iPhone I noticed something last night when I was syncing...
The NEXT sync date is 07/06/2009... The day of Apples Tech event, and the suspected release of OS 3...
Cant wait

Everything you need to now is there.
There is an online manual (very common) and exceptional help areas on the web...
I'd suggest, no offence, that the issues are more to do with the complexity of the device and your *current* lack of understanding about it. Calm down, learn the product, and you'll find it an excellent unit.
Vodafone towers - Whilst not losing signal, are causing more drop-outs and break ups... This will cause the phone to operate at higher power to maintain contact and will eat battery (my LG had a 5-6 day battery life, but in the Flinders this reduced to under 24 hours as it pushed power to maintain contact)
As for texting/driving.. I see no urgency EVER that requires ANY person to SMS whilst driving....
We are a rushed society with no patience anymore...
I'm not saying I havent done it before, but wont do it anymore... Stopped doing it a couple of years ago..... Texting (not looking) and a Roo jumped out in front of the vehicle.... Phone went flying, luckily I missed the Roo strike!
The mental focus on the conversation you're texting draws your attention away from things (it has to) and the fact your hands arent on the controls reduces your reaction time in an emergency. (Has to!)

Where's the headers only setting? There's a preview setting, but that doesn't stop the whole email coming through.
And how do you get podcasts remotely? Maybe PM me?
And I forgot last time - why won't Apple allow proper turn by turn navigational software? Answer is that is battery life isn't good enough. Something like Copilot 7 would be really good.

If you worried about battery life get one of these devices (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Backup-Battery-Charger-for-iPhone-3G-2G-Touch-iPod-Nano_W0QQitemZ270400144826QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Mo bilePhoneAccessories?hash=item3ef51ac5ba&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C 301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)...
I've got one thats a different design in that its a holder for the entire phone but the concept is the same. It tops the battery back up in about 15 minutes.
I hardly have to use it tho because I put my iphone in a cradle each night before going to bed.

I'm sorry but that's your own choice.
I contacted the Telecommunications Ombudsman and got out of my contract with Optus. The moment the phone was switched to Telstra it worked just like the ads - fast and everywhere. Brilliant.
I see here the poor saps on Optus think it's getting worse.. somehow.. (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/31/65243-optus-3g-network-getting-worse.html)

I have also been onto the TIO, Voda offered to release me from the contract, or take two months free phone/www access, they believe the issues will be resolved by then. If not I can go. Can't be fairer than that.

Has anyone checked out the Palm Pre? Its supposed to be the bee's knees and like the iPhone, only better. The lady I spoke to at the Telstra shop said 'its beautiful!', but I haven't seen it myself. Apparently it has a slide out keyboard as well as the touch screen.

I really like my iPhone but as a telephone it is a backwards step. The bluetooth capability is too limited, the speaker phone is poor quality.
The email and calendar functions work well for me and it is quicker for me to look at the iPhone for appointments over 3G than get outlook to startup.
The "SatNav" features is a compromise and no substitute for the real thing but then again they don't claim it ti be. I find it useful but not as a 'real-time' assistance.
The SMS keyboard is better than the old way but I can see that if someone is competent the old way they would not like it.
Have been learning how to write iPhone apps but cannot get access to a mac with an Intel chip unless I go and spend some money :(
I wouldn't go back to a normal phone but I know my manager's are experiencing productivity drops and are on the verge of abandoning them.
